Norman Verona Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Dom, There are certain car supermarkets who have been know to refuse to give people their keys back unless they sign. I know of someone who bought a car at a pointy place. The car was overpriced by about £1000, the finance was double the going rate and then they were talked into a few other things they didn't really need. By the time they'd finished paying for it 4 years later they swore they'd never buy there again. I'm sure Paul is smart enough not to fall for any of that but would you buy from a dealer that has that sort of reputation. Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Thanks all for the comments and handy hints I'm going to a couple of Ford main dealers over the next day or so just to check things out, I'm not in any rush, but I really hate buying cars, I was awake at 4 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep, flippin' cars going round and round in my head The Ford direct thingy looks a good option, you search for the one you want and your local dealer get it in stock for you to look at, if they're pre registered with only delivery mileage they should in theory be 'new' cars with no history to worry about. Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 also purchased a pre-registered astra van - saved a huge amount of money Quote
Stuart Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Paul if you're considering pre-registered then may be worth a look here. I just bought a pre-registered MX-5 2.0 Roadster Coupe from them and got 22% off list. Couldn't find a deal that good anywhere else. Communications great and car transporter delivered direct from Mazda's compound in Wakefield, with 11 miles on at 0800 on the day promised. If you pay the deposit by credit card then the whole deal is covered by Section 75. Gap insurance pretty cheap too - I paid Frank Pickles less than £80 for £7.5k max return to invoice for 3 years. Norman Verona Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 My customer is a regular attendee to Fords closed sale of pre-registered cars. I've emailed them but it may be his day off. Quote

I'm sure Paul is smart enough not to fall for any of that but would you buy from a dealer that has that sort of reputation. for me if the deal was right and i had done my homework/HPI check/etc and the car checked out ok and was what i wanted yes i would. paul seems to know what he wants, what to look for and i suspect how to finance it without them. so in that case why not use the people? i would have concern over warranties etc. main dealers are just as shonkey as the rest of them but we all have this brain wash idea that becuse they are the main dealer then they are ok. the stories on the web for these guys are no worse than some of the stories ive heared about some BMW dealers. my point was specifically for paul if he thinks the deal is right and he has no worries then go for it. regarding you firends, its not nice to hear that but there are som many ways to check for prices etc. simplest being go to any shop and buy an auto trader. as for keys thing. do as muy mum did when quick fit refused to put her wheels on claiming the two from sierra wheel bearings had failed. call the police. they soon got the thing down off the ramp Paul my mum and dad got their focus through the ford direct scheme and were more than happy with it. it even came with better spec than was listed. SootySport Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I've been to a few Car Supermarkets and providing you know what you want and how to test drive a car properly then it can be a money saving exercise. As above, they try to sell you extras like Diamond Protection, Warranties, insurance etc. They all seem to have a system for selling cars, you have to go through their "Process" LOL. Don't expect knowledgeble sales staff, he's a salesman nothing else. Don't expect discounts or haggling, just doesn't happen at Car Supermarkets. The good thing is there will be a mind boggling choice of Mondeos to choose from, when I bought my Audi there was a choice off 20 black A3 TDI's, so thats a good thing. 90% of the cars will be full dealer Service history, coming from the lease car companies. The Ownership and S/Histoty is always available for to peruse. Expect to spend the best part of the day to find exactly what you want. Quote
Meakin Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I bought our Family Fiesta 1.4TDi from motorpoint in Derby and as above fine no problems with the car. It had covered only a few miles (was in sublime - ie horrid green) but the car itself was fine. If you know what you want and what to check I don't see them as any different from other dealers. In fact I found ford much worse with the haggling. Paul Quote

KugaWestie Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Ok one last question, has anyone got any experience of New Car Discount in Warrington? http://www.new-car-discount.com/ Yes You will probably get a new car but be the second owner. I bought a new/second owner car from them a couple of years ago. No problem at all, good communication throughout the process Brand new, delivered to my door with delivery mileage only, straight off the production line but the V5 did have me as the second owner. I was aware of this before ordering though. Also the V5 was not issued until the car was 6 months old I did save over 25% and it made no difference when I moved it on Quote

Norman Verona Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 They register batches of cars every month end to manipulate the SMMT registration figures. They just want to keep their cars at the top of the league tables. They store the cars in a car pound and sell them as one owner. The supermarket and larger dealers are invited to closed auctions to buy "parcels" of them. My customer goes every month and buys about 200-300. I was in the showroom once when he returned from an auction. A salesman came running up to us as we were saying hello and wanted to know what he's bought. "Some Focuses and Mondeos" was the reply. "Oh, good, is there a whatever blue Focus?" He gave him a withering look and told him to pee off, "how do I know what colour they are, you'll see when they arrive" Quote
