I'm looking for a newish motor, I've seen a nice Mondeo titanium X at Motorpoint in Burnley and it looks like a reasonable deal,

Have any of you lot out there got any experience or views about dealing with them?

I hate buying cars, it's such a minefield, and a lot of money to spend.

Don't know about Motorpoint but bought my wifes car from The Car People about a year ago and thats exactly what you do, they don't sell you anything IYSWIM, let you wander around without pestering you and anything you are interested in they just get you the keys. Retractable bollards across the entrance so you can't just drive off but test drives are no problem. When my company car goes back when I retire I won't  hesitate to pay them a visit, no connection with the company just a satisfied customer. Two other people at work have also bought from them and say similar things.

Paul, we have a customer with a supermarket, Direct cars in Sheffield. Have a look on their site and I can arrange a few bob off (not a lot as they're priced competitively). www.directcars.co.uk

From what I've heard I wouldn't recommend Mototpoint.

Dont know anything about motorpoint either Paul but to be honest there arent many decent places left really now in anything are there? Everyone seems to want their pound of flesh these days!!

Your a switched on guy Paul as long as you have your wits about you im sure you will see who the real genuine ones are and who the halfwits are!

My old man has dealt with a company called Rix motors in warrington and hes never had any problems with them, they have always been spot on with him and have some good motors on too!

My Dad has recently bought a 10 plate Volvo C30 T5 from Direct Cars and they were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they checked the car over before releasing it.

My Dad knew the front tyres were worn and asked me to swap them round for him when he got it, only to discover they'd actually replaced them  :t-up: .

Just had a quick look on their site Norm, but there was nothing to meet my criteria

Paul, give me a spec and price and I'll ask if they've got any in the pipeline.

Hyah Norm thanks.

I've been looking mainly at Mondeo estates, Titanium X, or X sport, less than 1 year old and 10,000 miles, not interested in white.

I've been looking on Ford direct, they have a few Xs and X sports, not many, but lots of Titaniums with delivery miles (25) for quite good money.

bought a couple of cars for work through motorpoint

they are ok - they buy many ex lease cars and knock them out with low margins for big turnover of cars - a lot of their stuff is a year or so old so still has manufacturers warranty - just choose a nice motor from the forecourt and make sure all is ok then you cannot go too far wrong really

they do their own bodywoprk repairs so double the paintwork for repairs

the key is to only consider the cars they actually have at the site nearest to you - do not be led into them getting in a car for you from one of their other sites

Hi Paul

I've bought two cars from Motorpoint Burnley & one for the wife from Motorpoint Derby.

.

The experience of all three purchases was a good one. All three were used cars but less than 12 months old & low mileages. Two TDi Mondeo estates & Passat TDi Sport.

I spent a lot of time looking for the "right" car, the key for me is knowing what you want & walking away if it's not there, when it is, acting quickly.

Spend a lot of time in checking for any damage/repairs, because I think they sometimes buy them with damage & repair to sell on, I walk away from those. Also know the uk specification of the model you're interested in, because I've seen models which are not available in this country, built to a lower spec for sale abroad eg

Australia. Any imperfections I've spotted & pointed out have always been repaired & to a good standard.

They won't haggle over prices, the only way for me has been to haggle over the price of the car I'm selling in exchange. When it comes to signing off the deal & picking up the car, they push very heavily extras, such as, key insurance, special paint protection systems, wheel/tyre insurance, etc etc, you have to go through this & politely say no each time, "I just want to pay the price for the car I've seen & no more". The sales-people make their commission on the extras they can sell at this stage.

If you do go there, I hope you find what you're after. Good luck.

I've had a 07 plate titanium x estate for the last 4 years, it's fantastic, it's a bit heavy on the juice, but it's the 2.5t about 20 to the gallon, but it only does about 5000 miles a year, misses drive it more than me, when you look at its average speed it's 18mph so suppose 20 to the gallon is expected, but it's a great car.

i got the z4 from a place might as well be called a supermarket up in blackburn. he had loads of cars 3/4 of wich were presteige models. i recon i probably did everything you shouldnt do.... like buying a convertible on a hot sunny day etc. but i'd done my homeowrk, looked about loads and gave the car a good looking over. i think i paid a little bit too much say £500 but tbh i dont care. i think that car is brilliant and everytime i drive it i enjoy it.

my point is who cares if the place isnt the best customer experience place. your buying a car not getting your balls sucked. You seem to know what you want and know what to look for so if the deal fits then go for it. i could think of many places worse than them.

my only concern with those places would be where the car came from. i.e was it a rep car or ex hire car etc.
