  1. Hello everyone! I'm currently running an MGB GT as my daily - purely to have fun when driving. Over the 5-6 years of my ownership I have heavily modified the vehicle, partly my own spannering (for instance the interior and suspension work) as well as by my trusted specialist (like the Stage 2 tune). Now that I won't need more than 2 seats any longer, I can finally pursue my chase for more involvement and performance properly - with a Westfield! However, my last remaining hurdle, after having convinced my wife that it's a necessary move, is that I'm really rather tall. Plus I have ridiculously long legs for my height. A few years ago I got very close to buying an Elise, but I simply do not fit in - my knee doesn't allow me to engage 5th gear. So, after a long introduction: Is there an owner of a wide body local to (North) Devon who would kindly allow me to simply sit in their stationary car to see if I actually fit in? Thank you for reading this far + thank you in advance! Jens
  2. Hi all, The Haynes Motor Museum has issued a notice to say that they will start the breakfast club meetings from April 4th. They appear to have worked with the local authority etc to test whether this will be viable and have (I guess tentative), agreement to go ahead. The first event is scheduled for April 4th and the tickets are £5.00 per car - limited to a max of 2 occupants - provided that local Covid-19 restrictions at the time permit - otherwise one person per car. The event is outside but with catering on site. Being ever the optimist, I have bought a ticket - but Haynes have said that any tickets bought will be rolled forward to another date if the vent is not able to go ahead. Link to the event page here: https://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/haynesbreakfastclub Link to a video clip of prior event here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWxORMx0cMs A charge up to Haynes for a lard roll and coffee sounds like heaven just now and so thought that I'd post to to see if anyone in the SW areas might fancy it? I've not had my car long enough to not be in some form of restrictions and so would be great to meet a few people. April 4th is quite early and so may be a bit weather dependant but come on: cars - a drive - lard - coffee - what's not to like! What do folks think? Thanks all, W
  3. Hi all, Just testing the waters to see if anyone would be interested in going along to the Lyn Valley Classic in Lynton on June 13th. This is a great little event / show in Lynton which is always well attended with a great mix of cars and other vehicles. I have dropped the organisers a note to see if there is scope to have a little WSCC corner etc - and so will let you know when I hear back. Even if we we can't have our own corner then we can still go along as individuals etc - I think it's a fiver. There's a great fish & chip shop, pastie shop and pub and it's all right on the harbour. Link is here: https://www.lynvalleyclassic.co.uk/ Maybe if you could let me know if you are interested and I will get back to you once I hear from the organisers. Dorset and Bristol folks ( and anyone else!) very welcome too! Conscious that I am lobbing ideas out there at the moment so please feel free to let me know if this is / isn't the type of thing that you might be interested in or other ideas that you'd like me to follow-up? Thanks and have a great weekend! W
  4. Hi all, Well the time table that is being trailed seems to suggest that a drive out will be possible after 12th April. I guess that we will learn more detail in the briefing from BOJO this evening! It would feel pretty good to get a date in the diary, even if provisional - maybe something along the lines of a tour around as I had suggested previously? Be great to get your thoughts and whether you might be interested - any thoughts of dates that would work? Outside hospitality should be back up an running from 12th April and so we should at least be able to get a coffee & and sandwich somewhere. Once I have an idea of dates / numbers I'll have a ring around to see if we can book a couple of stops? Hope to hear from you? Thanks, Sean
  5. Hi all, I’ve been interested in Westfields for many years, but was never in a position to get my hands on one. That was until summer last year when I finally took the plunge after gawping at the club stand at Stoneleigh for hours, joined the club and through the club found my current car. The Westfield is my third kit car and whilst I didn’t build the car I am enthusiastic with adding upgrades! I will be writing up my experiences/progress in the not too distant future. This is when I bought my Westfield – it’s changed a lot since then! Still smiling (even when my heater leaks everywhere!) One of the reasons I joined WSCC was the level of involvement of the members and the number of events and meets that were taking place. Living in West Somerset close to Devon it’s a shame that there is no local area organiser in place and whilst I am attending some events organised by nearby areas it's a bit of a stretch for general meets when they are all over an hour away. So I thought I would step up and put myself forward for the roll of Devon and Somerset Area Organiser, so that members in these areas can have an increased chance to meet up with like-minded people and join in events, shows, track days, etc. Not that we need an excuse to use our cars, but sometimes it’s good to have a destination when out for a drive. Devon and Somerset is quite a large area, so I’m considering holding meets and trying to get club space at events throughout the two Counties to give as many people as possible the chance to take part. It would be good if you can contribute to the success of the area so can I ask that local members post or pm me suggestions for meet locations or events they are planning to attend throughout the year and the type of interest they have for using their cars (runs, car shows, track days, attending motor sport events etc.) I will post up ideas for the year so you can start adding to your calendars. I can arrange meets/chats/runs/etc. for Monday’s, Saturdays or Sundays and would look to hold these at a variety of times to hopefully suit more people, so again do let me know what works best for you. Perhaps in some suitable cake selling locations... I will typically have my partner with me (she is a joint member after all!) so feel free to bring along your other half/friend if you want to. As a first meeting I am attending the Speed Series event at Castle Combe on 23 March, which is part of the WSCC speed series calendar, so it would be good to meet up with some of you there whilst supporting the speed series. @Chris Broster - Bristol & Bath AO has invited the Bristol and Bath Area so some of you may already be attending via that route. Let me know if you can make it/are already attending so I can keep an eye out for you. Castle Combe has advised it is free entry and parking and the restaurant should be open. I’m also attending two track days so far this year – Castle Combe on 29 April and Llandow 18 May (organised by Complete Kit Car magazine) Let me know if you would like details of those. As a lot of events take place in or near other areas I hope we can have some joint area excursions as well. If you have any ideas for how to make your area work for you then please let me know. I’ll try to give as much advance notice of meets, but do bear with me! If you can think of any other active members in the area that I haven’t sent this to then please let me know. I hope to see some of you of on 23 March at Castle Combe. Nearer the time I will suggest a time/place to congregate so we don’t miss each other and can get a photo for the magazine! (I’ll have my Westfield cap on though of course) Dave @Julie Hall - AO Representative, Peak District AO @Chris Broster - Bristol & Bath AO @Martin Rice (Sparkymart) - Cornwall AO @AdgeC @markat @Wobblyprop @jonjh1964 @SXRORY @David tucker @merrill @Mark Hillier @Nic Surry @GarethHD @bilbo10uk @pipparsons @b16gnr @John (Kernow) @Nick Maunder @EP Westfield Devon @David Alexander - WSCC Treasurer @Dennis ggill @Davehagan @Dave Court @RandyMcStab @Fanders88 @Pixie @Ian Fraser
  6. Fancy joining us for a great weekend of car clubs, displays and steam power in sunny Devon? (sun not guaranteed!) The Crash Box Historic Vehicle Gathering is held at the Powderham Castle Estate near Exeter on 13 and 14 July 2019. It’s a great show with amazing opportunity to see a wide variety of cars as a large number of car clubs attend representing vehicles from pre-war to modern day, including Westfields. See here for more details https://historic-vehicle-gathering.info/index.php/welcome Dorset Area have a stand booked as do KitNet. We have the opportunity of further club stands, but we need to register our interest quickly to guarantee a space. We’ll all be located in the same area so it will be a great opportunity to meet up with other WSCC members and kit owners. The club stand is only for Westfields to be displayed, not tin tops. The cost for a weekend pass is £10 and this includes your passenger, but you don’t have to attend both days. Payment will be required on the day and will be collected by Colin from the Dorset Area who is a Crash Box member as well. Wrist bands are issued for exhibitors and their passengers in advance (no wrist band, no exhibiting or entry as a passenger). If you would like to attend you need to pre-register. Crash Box require the following details to process wrist bands: First name and surname of all people arriving in your vehicle Vehicle make and model Vehicle registration Can you also let me know the days you will be attending so we can gauge the size of stand required Please PM me your details rather than posting. Further details and terms can be found on the attached pdf - please have a read. Powderham 2019 Club Entry Form.pdf @Chris Broster - Bristol & Bath AO if you would like, you and your Area members that wish to attend can send their details via me as well? Let me know. Camping is available, but is going quick. If you would like to camp you will need to arrange this yourself directly via the website. If you can let me know initial intentions by the 22 March so we can get an idea of numbers that would be great. Any questions please ask. Hope to see you at the event. Dave

  8. Reminder for Wiscombe hill climb this weekend with WSCC speed series featuring. I am aiming to be there for 0930 on the Saturday, but will definitely be in the paddock in front of the gates into Wiscombe House (behind the food vans) for a catch-up at 11:00. I'll have my Westfield cap on as always - please come and say hello. If you can’t make Saturday, the Dorset area are attending on the Sunday. Dave
  9. The WSCC Speed Series is at Wiscombe Park hill climb on 27 and 28 April. We're gong to hold the next Devon and Somerset meet on the Saturday 27 April to support the Speed Series, have a catch-up and enjoy some on-track action. http://www.wiscombepark.co.uk/events/events.htm I will post a pre-meet location nearer the time (so we can drive in together and park for a group photo of course ) I believe the coffee bar usually sells some cake as well! For anyone unable to make the pre-meet, let's say 11:00 in the paddock in front of the gates into Wiscombe House (behind the food vans) for a catch-up. I'll have my Westfield cap on as always - please come and say hello. See you there, Dave and Tracy.
  10. Next meet for Devon and Somerset will be at Haynes Breakfast Club on Sunday 7 April https://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/events/haynes-breakfast-club-1 Aiming to be there for 08:30 - hope to see you there for a catch up on all things cars (and a bacon roll) Other Areas please do come and join us Dave
  11. Reminder for the day out at Castle Combe on 23 March to watch the Speed Series as part of the Bristol Motor Club . I'm travelling up with @AdgeC and we're planning to get there for 09:30-10:00. We can meet with others travelling up at about 08:00 in Wells if anyone's about? Let us know. We'll be aiming to park at Camp corner parking area alongside Dean Straight - red on the map (entrance from the main entrance on the bend off the main road) and will have a flag up (and be in Westfield's of course!) We'll wait around there for a bit to see if any of you have arrived by then. Otherwise can I suggest we all try to meet outside the Restaurant (aka 'The Tavern Clubhouse') in the paddock at 11:00 for a catch up and to see if we can get a group picture around Simon's car and see if Tom is there in his Mini. Then enjoy the rest of the day in the sun watching the on-track action (it will be sunny) Dave
