CO2 emissions on electric car

the Ampera isnt a pure electric car! The leaf is, and the claim is zero tailpipe emissions

Very true, I was meerly curious after Vauxhall had the 'power station' CO2 data in their brochure. I also prefer the concept of an engine generating electricity to then power an electric motor. Pure electric has a market, but much more limited than a hybrid.

Zero out of the tailpipe yes, but not zero and quite as eco as many of the electric car drivers will reaslise I suspect. Allthough I suspect most of them have visions of their very own electricity coming all the way from an unsightly wind turbine. Just hope they don't charge their car up when its not windy....

I'm all for development and moving forward by the way, and applaud those manufacturers that have stepped up to the mark and done something worthwhile for selling to Joe Public. So that's Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Vauxhall etc The end result may not be any better than a modern diesel though, but at least there's progress being made.

My Escort Mk2 is the greenest car in my street. It hasn't been built 15 times like my neighbours cars who change them every 2 years or so and it still does 40mpg.

Personally I'm in the camp of not caring how much CO2 is put out, though figures are interesting. I guess the nastiness in batteries outweighs CO2 anyway. It's all about the cost for me - when a 4 seater car that'll do 60 or so miles on a charge comes along and is less than £15k, it would be viable for me. Most of my driving is urban, and is done with a 4 litre V8. I think second hand Mievs are in the above category so if I end up with a house that has a driveway big enough I may well give it a go.

Until the range is something like the Ampera though, it could never be a sole car.

Electric cars just move pollution or whatever somewhere else

Where has the lead from lead free petrol gone..?

It`s still here somewhere....just not dumped out of motorists exhausts.

I read somewhere once that making one car pollutes the environment more than it ever does in its lifetime of use.

I think electric power is a good move in the right direct.

The electric bikes on The Island at the 2012 TT were amazing....we`re travelling forward in leaps and bounds.

One small problem....didn`t I hear recently that Britain is running out of capacity to produce electricity for the grid.HOW ARE WE GOING TO CHARGE OUR BATTERIES ? Unless you drive a carbon fibre covered bicycle, solar power is not a viable option...Yet.

I was talking about Graphene on anther thread.

I wouldn't worry about charging electric cars as most will be charged overnight when demand is low.

Just taken a look - from just under 14k on the road it seems and out in the summer. £70 a month battery rental which will eat into fuel savings, but then you don't have to worry about the battery losing capacity I suppose.
