Norman Verona Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Absolutely. We let the accountants take over from the engineers many years ago. Now everything is built to a price rather than engineering practice. By the way we have the Chinese and Indians make everything now as we we can't staff factories at their wage costs. And we wouldn't want to. However a lot of stuff made in Asia is designed in the Western world and is made for US or European companies. Quote

Norman Verona Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Doctors in any subject get cornered at parties and asked to identify embrassing rashes... Good remark. One of our friends over here is a doctor, our doctor. He explains it is difficult for him to make friends as they always expect free consultations and every time they meet they start explaining some medical problem. We always pay the consultation fee and NEVER discuss our health when we're together. He finds it difficult to understand and we, likewise, couldn't understand the problem. Until we were at the horse racing track with him and Marianne. As we got out of the car a lady we know was getting in a car on the other side of the car park. She is the secretary of the club and worked at the insurance agency we had our insurances with. Anyway, Madame Godd came running across the car park, said "bonjour" to us and started explaining to the doctor about this pain in her leg. Camille told her to visit the cabinet (surgery) and moved us all on thereby ending the conversation. We now understand. When I was much younger and still working on the shop floor as a car mechanic I was inundated by HM parents neighbours to do some work on their cars. They thoughts, as I was the boyfriend of the daughter, that a few bob would suffice for a whole days work. I soon learnt to say I was too busy at work to find time to repair their cars. And now, because I have a software company, I'm always being asked to sort out problems with peoples PCs. I just explain that I've lost touch with it all now so can't help. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Funny that; when I worked as a polymer technologist nobody buttonholed me for advice on the applications of polyethylene terephalate injection moulding compounds, or how to avoid undercuts on complex mould designs.
