Bananaman Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 What do people think to having a joint track day with ourselves & the Blatchatters? Could be fun, no timing of corse just for fun. andy Blatman you know a few of these people i belive what do you think?
Blatman Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 Yeah, this cropped up last Sunday. General consensus was that, independently, we (both clubs) could fill a track day on our own, so there is no benefit to either clubs members in organising a joint one, 'cos both clubs would have to turn down participants in favour of the others members.....IYSWIM. There may be some benefit in offering to "help out", should one of either clubs track days be seriuosly undersubscribed, but I can't see that happening............
Bananaman Posted November 7, 2002 Author Posted November 7, 2002 I know what you are saying Blatters however it may enable us to book some of the Larger tracks. See My Post on Blatchat! Andy
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 Hi Andy Pleased you enjoyed the trip at Cadwell. I think a joint day would be a good idea, especially if we could get somehwere big like Donnington, which we could not afford by ourselves. Nick
Blatman Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 which we could not afford by ourselves. With all due respect....... How do you know that?
Bananaman Posted November 7, 2002 Author Posted November 7, 2002 Mr Blat I think Nick mentioned something along these line in a previous thread and was told that this had been tried and failed due to cost/lack of attendies. Nick? andy
Chris Elworthy Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 I think a joint track day would be an excellent idea, so long as its with the Sugababes !
Mark Stanton Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 I think Nick mentioned something along these line in a previous thread and was told that this had been tried and failed due to cost/lack of attendies That doesn't mean the same as which we could not afford by ourselves. though does it By all means please feel free to explore all viable options
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 Mr Blat I don't know what we could or could not afford as I am not the tresurer, but I do know that lots of people talk about going to these events and when someone organises it they suddenly vanish. Currently having exactly this problem with a Go-Kart night I have organised at Durham on the 25th Nov, this is a plug anyone up for that 30 mins practice and 90 mins Endurance teams of 4 or 5 people. Also as Bannaman remembers I got the opposite response to another post. So make your mind up guy's If enough people are interested ie twice the number we need to allow for dropout's then let's do it. Nick
Mark Stanton Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 Nick Explore all viable options it costs nowt - You would need to find out the following as a start off : availability of dates, prices, incl. paramedics, marshals, public liability insurance stuff (race tracks usually want cover provided from £5 million through to £20 mill), admin, postage and photocopying costs. For a base starting point. Then work out how many you would expect to attend and sub-divide the cost between those turning out
Bananaman Posted November 8, 2002 Author Posted November 8, 2002 Mark Are you saying it would be a logistical nightmare 7 therefore too much of a pain in the . It was just a thought really, maybe if us or them were to organize a day at one of these tracks & then invite the other group? AKA like TVR do with us i.e. Day membership? I do understand how much effort is involved in sorting these days out & appreciate that it is probably a bit of a nightmare getting it all together. I just thought it might be a bit of fun. Andy P.S. The track days I have been on run by the club have been fantastic & I will support future ones whole-heartedly thanks .
Blatman Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 I too have had some experience in arranging track days. There is no problem in getting 50 people to repsond to a web posting saying "yes, more/better circuits" etc etc, and "count me in" . When you book the circuit, and publish the date, you can bet your bottom dollar (well, your deposit at least) that half of those who responded can't make it, due to a previous commitment and the other half won't send enough money to cover what you've laid out on the deposit to secure the day. So you (or more likely, the organising club) have just blown a 4 figure sum on a track day that ain't gonna happen........... And like I said before, General consensus was that, independently, we (both clubs) could fill a track day on our own, so there is no benefit to either clubs members in organising a joint one, 'cos both clubs would have to turn down participants in favour of the others members..... I was discussing this subject with a Committee Member of the L7Club. We reasoned that There may be some benefit in offering to "help out", should one of either clubs track days be seriuosly undersubscribed, but I can't see that happening............ I realise that this wasn't an official approach from the WSCC, just two friends running ideas past each other, but the plan has already be mooted. Perhaps you should contact the Club Chairman or Secretary, plus the Chairman and Secretary of the L7 Club, with a proposal, along with a "business plan", as laid out by Mark Stanton.......... You need to start looking at/booking tracks NOW for next year too. My summers activities (April to October) are already pretty much planned, so whilst I'd like to attend a track day at Donnington/Oulton, I'll need to factor in costs NOW, and only then if it's on a date that doesn't clash with anything else, and then I have to assume that I can get the time off work. Multiply those conditions by a factor of 100, and you can see why initial response fades away........... Having said all that, if you want to arrange a joint track day, great, and I would try to support it, but please don't think that attendance and breaking even on the money is a foregone conclusion..........
gregh Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 I'll stick my hand up and say defo interested. Providing the chosen date doesn't clash with anything else and it was a reasonable Westfield drive from Leeds (ie not brands hatch) I'd be there
Mark Stanton Posted November 8, 2002 Posted November 8, 2002 Are you saying it would be a logistical nightmare & therefore too much of a pain in the Depends very much on how well the volunteer event organiser sorts everything out and produces a viable "business plan" and does their homework. And this event volunteer is ...................................... Fill in the space or take one step forward
