Nick M Posted May 17, 2002 Author Posted May 17, 2002 Excellent ! Go straight to Arnage. Do not pass go. Do not collect £200 (speeding fine !. See ya there Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 17, 2002 Posted May 17, 2002 Please stop all this torture I was hoping to get down there this year, but my Le Mans budget has since been diverted on engine re-build to camper I was all set to meet up at Ecommoy with all the other WSCC campers, I know you've all been going there for many years, but alas not until 2003. I'll be tuned into Eurosport and Radio Le Mans over the web and a Stella at the ready. Ah the smell of brakes, hot oil and greasy French - Fantastic Have a good one you lucky folks Quote
windy Posted May 17, 2002 Posted May 17, 2002 Mark, You really should come along you know. Plenty of BBQ's to choose from !!! Nick, As well as the track action on Friday we should pay a visit to the Hotel de France in La Chartre about a 30 min drive from Le Mans. The village square will be full of exotic cars and you'll perhaps get a chance to chat to some of the drivers. The Hotel is foyer is adorned with signed photos from past years from drivers who used to (and still) stay there during he race week. It's almost a museum that just happens to sell beer!!!!! Windy Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 18, 2002 Posted May 18, 2002 Windy, You're not helping Bar B Q's hhhhhmmmmmmmm and Le Chartres Car Show - its a must, but sadly not this year - Thank god the French don't charge the same prices as F1 - Le Mans is a Bernie Free Zone. Just spotted my old entry ticket from 97 - just 270F - less than £30 and parking was only a tenner for all race and practice days (total). Can't have increased that much ? What is it now £35 / £40 ? And if anyone mentions a visit Le Mans town centre for scrutineering - I gonna scream and thats FREE I'll just after to watch my video from 1997 again - who is that Yellow Westfield driver - blatting around arnage and indeanapollis - have a beer for me Windy. Neil H Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Add another one to that meeting :-) Chrome Yellow Westie, hopefully brave enough to turn up with aero screens for the week! Quote
Fat Arnie Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 I would suggest that after last years incident of the Ferrari F355 doing a hit & run, "Mad Friday" may be somewhat better policed in 2002. If you want to see the Ferrari incident ( and you have a fast web connection) you can download an mpeg here Its the bottom clip on the page! Personally I reckon he was aiming for the car behind the seat! Quote
ian2.1pinto Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 I'll be there in a dark blue SEiW. Unfortunately, my mate will be with me in his c******m Hopefully there'll be those helpful chaps with their big Bently flag and can of 20w/50 to help teh proceedings along like last year Quote
Kevin Wood Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 Hi There, I'll be there. Navy blue Westie as in the photo <<<< Will look out for you. A word of warning about swapping plates. Two years ago my mate got pulled up in customs in Dover and was asked why his DAX rush didn't look much like a Ford Sierra. Turns out they have a camera recording every number plate, looking up the car type, colour, etc and the jobsworth in the shed stops anyone whose car doesn't fit. Turns out the database still had the details of his donor car. They were going to detain him until the police arrived. Fortunately he had all documents, ie V5 for before and after the build and managed to convince them. Kevin Quote
sparkey Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 I agree with Arnie that the Ferrari incident may have changed things a bit. I was there and I usually try a few burnouts, but I'm not so keen now. It was always bound to happen at some time, but imagine the difference if the Ferrari had spun the other direction and wiped out half a dozen spectators. Accelerating flat out with wheels spinning towards a funnel of spectators is a fairly memorable occassion, but it's a bit worrying at the same time. I'll be there again this year, but I'll be standing well back and won't be indulging in the wheelspinning (possibly). b******* - I sound all sensible now. Sparkey Quote
Ian Podmore Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 You are all making me jealous too! I used to go to Le Mans (for 5 or 6 years), and found that Sunday night was the maddest night, racing down the campsite track. Someone did get run over (Audi A6 Avant) and he wasn;t even hurt (well didn't appear to be but it was the evening so everyone was very full of beer... Also seen a few cars go back a little bent, some idiot fell out of a Triumph Herald convertable. Oh what memories. Raced against a Sierra Cosworth last time I went, while driving a 17 seater diesel transit. Guess what? I lost! Miss Le Mans loads, must try and go next year in Westie. Quote
