smorse Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 My cars been SORNed over winter & the MOT has lapsed, I now want to get it back on the road so the plan was to go to the post office with a V10 form I downloaded from the DVLA website to allow me drive it to the MOT station a couple of miles away, however I realise the P.O. won’t accept payment without an MOT, catch 22, am I able to drive it to the MOT station without TAX? Andy Banks Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 In short, Yes. You are able to drive to a registered MOT garage/station without Road Tax. Once you pass the MOT you should be able to buy Road Tax online within the hour. Make sure the place you take it records your booking along with reg number, just in case you get stopped. You can then proove you are driving to a registered place for a pre booked MOT which IIRC is what the law requires on cars with no MOT or TAX. Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 And you are also allowed to bring it back home after failing a MOT, pre-booked is the key. Quote
stephenh Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Make sure you have insurance however, at least third party cover as required by law. Quote
smorse Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 cheers guys, yep its insured & MOT is booked, can't tax online as i don't have a reminder hence going the P.O. route Quote
deanoecosse Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 cheers guys, yep its insured & MOT is booked, can't tax online as i don't have a reminder hence going the P.O. route For info, you CAN tax online without a reminder, I did this myself last week when taking my Westy off SORN. However obviously you won't be able to do it until you have a new MOT so that you pass the electronic check online Quote
Kevin Wood Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Also bear in mind you can only tax it from the first day of the month, so given we're half way through March you might want to wait until 1st April. Quote
