dern Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I did a search on this and couldn't find anything recent so apologies if it has been covered. Can anyone recommend any companies I can call for quote for a fairly highly modified kit car (not a westfield on this occasion I'm afraid)? By highly modified I mean the installation of a highly tuned turbo engine with all the supporting suspension and braking upgrades. I only need limited road miles, say 3000 miles a year. Track day/competition cover would be nice but I'm prepared to take the risk. I'm in my early 40s and live in a village in Berks if that makes much difference. Many thanks, Mark Quote
Howden Insurance - Specialist Vehicle Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Afternoon Mark, I'm sure we can help! Obviously we love Westfields, but we have facilities for most private vehicles, including other kit marques, modified vehicles and classics. If you can call me on 01635 874646 I will happily take all the details and have a look for you. If you're in Berks, you're not far from us either as we're based in Thatcham. Hopefully speak to you soon. Regards, Clare Quote
dern Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks Clare, I just spoke to one of your colleagues who is sorting a quote out for me. Regards, Mark Quote

dern Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks Peter, got a guide quote from a-plan and am hoping to see the car on sunday. If I get it I'll shop around then but frankly I'm happy with the A-plan quote. God I love kit-cars. I've had an elise for two years and I can see no advantage to them over a westfield/kit-car whatsoever but sometimes you need to get these things out of your system Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Most will cover but there tends to a loading for bike engines and a loading for turbo or superchargers. A turbo bike engine seems to be the worst combination from my experience. Kit cars are generally cheap to insure for the performance. Frank Pickles also offer parts only cover but you need to call rather than quote online Quote
dern Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 Cheers all. I was so sure I'd be buying a Westfield I paid up subs for a year's membership... but it appears to have paid dividends in terms on insurance savings I guess Anyway, bought this this morning... ...which has a mazda rotary 13b turbo engine installed. Boost controller lets you tame it to 200bhp or wind it up to 400bhp. Can't wait to pick it up next weekend. Cheers, Mark Quote
dern Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Got cover through A-plan in the end. The price was very good for what the car is, they were very helpful and they're on the door step (minimal advantage for the last point I guess). Picked up the car on sunday and trailered it home. Just had time for an hours play... it's completely mental. Very happy with it Cheers, Mark Quote
