Young Pretender
Sorry, I'm firing off some silly questions today! I need to replace my air filter that sits on Webber 45's. Is there a standard size I should be going for or is it a judgement call on the size of the hole in the bonnet? It's a narrow bodied car. The one I'm taking off has a ridge around it which made me wonder if it was perhaps not the best fit Cheers for helping Mark
Captain Colonial
Why do you need to replace it?
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
The foam type filters, providing the foam is damaged and breaking up etc. can be cleaned and ideally, re-oiled. If you have a look at somewhere like Merlin Motorsport they do the special cleaner and re-oiler spray. (not everyone seems to oil the foam filters, but it gives better filtering of smaller particles if you do.)
Young Pretender
The other side has a big hole in it

Dave the Sparky
Someone's getting busy Mark! V jealous, mines being looked after by Steve this week so I'm on the couch with a glass of red, but in this weather it's not a bad option... Can't wait to carry on fettling, headlights off for a respray next week, I hope Steve doesn't find anything to serious wrong with mine.... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
You're gonna need something stronger than wine when you see what Steve's been up to while he's got your car.
Dave the Sparky
You're gonna need something stronger than wine when you see what Steve's been up to while he's got your car. Just seen it! Still in shock pal, tho I hear he only bothers to take his clothes off for really special cars, I'm flattered...honest... Where's that single malt?...... Terryathome
Look like a PX600 filter to me Look here for more details http://www.pipercross.net/competition/products_px600.asp
Young Pretender
Thanks Terry, I did see this site but it's precisely what has confused me. The filter that came off my car has the dimensions as follows: A - 435mm B - 160mm C - 120mm I can't see anything listed that closely matches this Dave, I think you'll be just fine but I know how you feel, nervous about chucking mine in for a check too. At least you know you'll get a thorough and honest appraisal
Terryathome
I'm sure if you give then a bell they will sort you out with the correct size that you want. Terry
Dave the Sparky
Dave, I think you'll be just fine but I know how you feel, nervous about chucking mine in for a check too. At least you know you'll get a thorough and honest appraisal When I got my M3 year before last I put that into a trusted Indy for a onceover, it needed a rear spring, a bush, a power steering pipe (BMW £169!), new poly belts and they serviced it £800! And the guy is genuine and let me watch him do the work 6.5 hrs at £40/hr. Who knows what a dealer would have charged. Then it needed a geo setup £140. I was still happy that it was all straight but was quietly glad when she went before anything went bang. I am certainly hoping for a far better outcome for my little Westie! Got mods to save for! chappers
C603D PX 600 domed filter should be OK. Looks like your bonnet cut-out could do with being enlarged a bit anyway to avoid the bonnet cutting into the filter. Height wise depends how long the trumpets you are using or plan on using. Just make sure there is enough gap between the end of the trumpet and the inside of the filter. You can go deeper if you like without changing trumpet length, in case you want to lenghten the trumpets at a later date.
Young Pretender
Thanks chappers, That's the filter that seems to fit the bill best but I do need to check the trumpet length as you mention. I'll give Pipercross a call tomorrow anyway as I don't want to spend the money only to find out it won't fit.
