Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
The Owner of an extremely successful Scottish manufacturer we have dealt with for many years has won a number of government etc awards over the years for both business and engineering/technological development in a field that was commonly regarded as men in sheds. As a result of this the governments of the day have often taken visiting politicians to tour the Richard Rodgers designed factory. The whole factory is set up for making high performance, high precision components containing both electronics and engineered components. A surprising amount of this engineering and board population is done in-house, to guarantee the appropriate level of control, accuracy and quality. Something that staggered a bunch of visiting Japanese politicians some years ago. One of the senior politicians raised the point that surely it was dreadfully inefficient and a waste of resources to have some of the expensive plant sat around doing nothing. To which the Scottish CEO replied "And how often do you use your k**b? But I bet you're damn glad it's there when you need it!"
lippydave
Echoz, you're missing the point.... I'd just like to stoop here to neatly tie two threads together...Ahem.... If you have a suitably remunerated position, and receive hefty bonuses, 85k depreciation can seem like a drop in the ocean... Also the numpties who buy them new are the people who take the hit and make them a relative bargain for subsequent buyers...It's all about supply and demand, just that most of us aren't Premier League players, more likely Beezer Homes League.... I think on that sort of basis I'm the financial equivalent of the local youth club team....
echoz
If you're the youth team, I'm doomed did someone mention specialists
Rory's Dad
the Richard Rodgers designed factory. Actually it was Norman Foster's (pedant mode/off) Rory's Dad
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Really? Its always been credited to Richard Rodgers Partnership, as built by Balfour Beaty in the documents I've seen. As far as I was aware, (though always interested to learn more of the history!), the team involved was Kieron Breen, Tim Colquhoun, Mike Davies, William Firebrace, Marco Goldschmied, Colin MacKenzie, John McFarland, Richard Rogers, John Sorcinelli and John Young. I know Norman Foster and Richard Rodgers did work together, but thought it predated this project - wasn't it in the seventies? Where as this was done between '85 and '87. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Here y'go http://www.fosterand...95/default.aspx Rory's Dad I think we're at cross purposes here perhaps? The link seems to point me at McLaren's headquarters. I'm referring to a Glasgow based company, nothing to do with the car industry, or motorsport, just didn't name them 'cause I don't know if the quote is public domain!
