top gear special

Wasn't a classic, I agree, but would we rather have the BBC spending our money on shows like big brother, x-factor, britain's got talent, etc instead.  It still stands up well compared to a lot of the other dross around.

I just wish the people who can't stand the program would stop taunting themselves by watching the ******g thing and then moaning about it. Let the rest of us that do get some enjoyment from it watch it in peace.

Yes, it's not a car program, no its not as good as it once was - even they'll admit they're far nearer to the end than the beginning. And yes, the set pieces are telegraphed a mile away.

It'll be gone soon enough and I'll really miss it when it is.

And in the unlikely event that they have some ground breaking, fantastic episodes, or even review a car, don't worry those of still watching it will let you know so that you can catch the rerun on Dave.

I normally like TG, warts and all, but this one was a low point for the "specials".

They need some new script writers/fresh ideas!

That said if we're all boring enough to be sat watching TV, we get what we deserve...

I did point out to the missus that for a lot less dough than they spent on this episode, I could have 3 times the fun and laughter with a couple of mates doing a banger rally to somewhere in Europe...

She said..."Why don'y you then?"....

I've taken that as tacit approval.... :D  :t-up:  :D

I am generally a TG fan but this was not a good one.  Very contrived and the formula past it's sell by date.  Some of the scenery was fantastic but I would not want to drive on those roads in anything other than a tank.

The only thing dumber than watching Top Gear and moaning about it in the WSCC boardroom is being me and not having watching it yet and coming in here and reading a thread moaning about Top Gear. :durr:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

according to Mrs. H. I slept through most of it. Oh, and the reason we put it on in the first place was because we are planning a holiday to India, and Mrs. H. thought it would be good to see if it gave us any ideas of things to see or do there.

It didn't, needless to say! :D  :D  :D

Gadgetman, I didn't watch it to taunt myself and then b***h about it on here, quiet the opposite as it happens.

I watched it because I thought that it would be up to the standard of the other TG specials but IMHO it was not.

I (as others did) responded to an active thread and offered an opinion on it (as others did, good and bad) on a point of discussion.

I'm sorry if my negative comments spoiled your enjoyment of the show.

I have been a TG fan for ages and I usually look forward to enjoying the latest episodes, the one last night was dissapointing because it was so predictable.

Maybe as petrol heads we judge it more harshly as we expect a more car biased programme rather than light entertainment.

I certainly do not think that the TG idea is dead in the water but it is in need of a re-freash and has for some time now.

Judging from the feedback on other car based forums I use the feeling is pretty much universal.

I'd rather watch TG (even the worst bits) any day than crap like Strictly, Britian's Got Talent, X Factor, Made In Chelsea, The Only Way Is Essex, Pykie Weddings ect ect ect.

Chaz.

What Top Gear special?

Sorry Chaz, nothing personal, just the wave of negativity gets a bit predictable in its own right  :D

You've got to admit though, there do seem to be a few on the regular why I don't like Top Gear but am still watching it threads that treat it almost like a loose tooth, and just can't help themselves from worrying it

Incidentally, the nearer the end comment is paraphrased from something, IIRC correctly, that Andy Willman himself said.

Anyhow, the brake light trick had me in stitches, just off to stick a roll of wire in the car boot with a few tools and will be on the hunt for a mates car to try it on

I thought it was ok, liked the "gentlemen's relish" on a biscuit gag.

I think the weekly show is a bit dull but thought this was entertaining - especially when compared to all the other Christmas crap that's been on.

I also was very disapointed with it. yes there was some funny moments but overall it was a waste of time and money going there.

what it did do was reinforce my opinion after that party, seeing the wealth that was on display with high end cars, that India no longer needs handouts from us, they need to spread the wealth, cut out corruption and look after their own people.

Nail on head     :t-up:

Just a thought is it the same folks that moan about  F1 and come on here and say I spent two hours watching it and what a pile of crap. I think I will watch it next time :p:devil:

Just watched it..and spent enough time chuckling or just plain flat out close to p*****g myself laughing to consider it worth the watch.

Not the best they've done, no, but still entertaining.  It's always a bit of a crime the things they do to poor unsuspecting cars....

Enjoyed it.  Maybe the beer helped.
