Hi all, just thought id ask who you all recommend for an exhaust. Im aware of simpsons, and have spoken to them-pretty sure theyre one of the best, but $$$$ may be an issue. btb (i think theyre called) i spoke to but were a bit more than simpsons!

i did speak to a guy at tony law, but he seemed to think that they wouldnt be the best at something like that, as they only weld piece by piece and dont bend anything-? (would appreciate your thoughts on that)

who else is there to try?

I really want a silencer with an inbuilt cat-understand that I might have to get that from someone like simpsons tho (£725!)

cheers

You could try JAC exhausts at Hucknall, Notts.

My last system came from there and the workmanship is stunning.

thx guys will try them tomorrow

725 isnt that bad for a can with a cat. the standard one from westfield is 530 and i expect the simpsons one to be better.

theres a place somewhere up this way.... jp exhausts in macclesfield IRC

a few i have done :t-up:  just over £700 does not sound bad at all if that is for a complete system ,manifold can be anything upto and over 1k and a good few hundred for a silencer and even more for a cat can ,at the end of the day you get what you pay for ,you pay peanuts you get chimps ,simple

noooo 725 was for can with cat in it!

im thinking the complete setup will put me somewhere in region of 15-1600

Why not have a mild steel manifold made, and then couple that to a stainless silencer with an external cat. ???

Also keep in mind that the F20 engine is very critical to exhaust sizes and lengths.

yeh I did think of mild steel idea-but because of looks I thought about this coating they can have-seen some black ones that look good-dont know how much that costs, or whether or not it would end up being any cheaper than stainless?

mike from r.e.d told me to try my best to use the standard exhaust mainfold as it really does produce brilliant power figures-he also mentioned one he had in which was losing massive power simply because the exhaist wasnt a good match for engine. Thing is that making the standard one fit will be almost impossible..4-2 branch follows engine to tightly, so not only is steering column in way, but bulkhead too!

was hoping I could take the standard one and get someone to measure it and copy as close as possible with a different bend?

Strange comment from Tony Law, I am pretty sure they do bend stuff.  They made me a lovely mild steel manifold for the old a crossflow a couple of years ago   .

Wunoff supplied a repackable stainless silencer to Tony Law (don't think they located that far apart) who fitted it at the same time.  Next stage was to get the manifold Camcoated but i destoyed the engine before I could get round to that

Probably the best in the Uk H&S

If you can get the car to SE Essex. Had my silencer made and fitted by them.

have a feeling I might have confused tony law with wunoff... not too sure.ive contacted so many people recently, im not sure which way is straight ahead anymore!

I agree with Steve, you get what you pay for. I bought the Simpsons complete system in the last bulk buy and the quality is superb. The cat adds about £250 to the cost of the silencer IIRC. Matt makes the systems to fit the fit the car so they fit perfectly.

Tony Law exhaust covered in camcoat on the green car. It's been top notch for well over a decade now. The manifold is just starting to show it's age, but the visible bits (which is most of it as it's bonnet exit) are still acceptable and the silencer is almost as good as new.

The sprint car now has a full Simpson system and as noted the workmanship is second to none. I'll never have to buy another exhaust for that car in my lifetime (kiss of death... :0 )

Part of the message here is that whilst the initial outlay may seem pricy, if you buy right, you'll only buy once ;)

Exhausts are a well trodden path with proven solutions. There's a reason the same names (Simpson, Tony Law, Wunoff, Camcoat) keep cropping up...

Powerspeed are probably worth a call too..
