s2rrr Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Carl, Whilst I may understand your philosophy it does not work I fully understand and agree that Lippyaves advice was given out of shear frustration with the system and in my case my son also a Josh, exactly the same scenario. Continual and covert bulling at school by one guy and his cronies, went through the school system, nothing found no bullying in our school. Couldn't possibly admit to the fact that it occured. My wife being a TA and caring person would never advocate violence or selective use of his self defence skills. I also don't agree that violence is the be all and end all but--. Tell the teacher they will sort it, after numerous events and after some thought I instructed the lad to use whatever he needed to defend himself. My son is a big softy but is also a covert Karate black belt and keeps that very quiet as it attracts attention and idiots wanting to try you out, he's not a bust nose moronic type. His Sensai would always say this is not a sport for violence only defence. So I guess with my green light and open agrrement to stand his ground he could. He did his best to avoid any further conflict but when it came again after a physical assault he floored the guy, one punch. Believe me I have held the pads for him during practise and when fully fit was ever so strong. Anyway suprise suprise, end of bullying no further problems, my lad has peaecfully got on with his studying without any issues. So the thugs understand what works and my lad has since retired from Karate and had no further trouble for several years now. None of us condones violence and we would all walk away these days as the common theme is to be armed with knives. It worked for him and Lippys lad a brief one off defence which did more good than harm and I secretly believe the lads headmaster had a small smile on his face when he was told about the incident which ended the issue. Myself I was pleased he had the bottle to stand his ground after the prolonged assault on a quiet boy in school. Also more pleased that he showed enough self control to only hit him the once any more would have been seen as retribution ( b****y satisfying but unnecessary ). My lad has never mentioned it since and funnily the big lad who caused the bother has also calmed down a lot, so some good came out all round. For info, the reason he was taught Karate was to become fitter and an offshoot was to learn self discipline, his Sensai is a really nice guy who gets on with everyone extremely well and is a 7th Dan. Absolutely awesome when in full flow, you wouldn;t volunteer to get on his bad side but a more placid guy you couldn't imagine. Bit funny once the seniors went to a local restuarant for a meal everyone was at least a 2nd Dan when some numpties created mayhem. The guys just continued eating until it became dangerous for them. It all ended about 5 seconds later the 6 numpties all being carried out slightly worse for wear to the police truck and the soup was still warm. Unlucky really a bad group to pick on. 2 up for the good guys Bob Quote
mark.anson Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Perfect example of the curse of our modern PC society , Lets all just sit back and let a spoilt brat like that rule the roost because he knows (or thinks he does ) full well he is untouchable and can do whatever he likes and get away with it We saw the same thing in the London riots where "kids" were trashing the city and no -one , not even the police dared touch them in case of reprisals . The big man should be knighted IMO for doing the right thing and evicting the little scrote from the train . society has gone bonkers Here,Here. Give the man a medal. If the youth had assaulted the elderly conductor and got away with a £50.00 fine, people would be on here moaning that society is too soft and he should have been flogged. The big fella chucks him off the train and folk are moaning he was too rough. Jeeez. GET A GRIP. His parents should give him a belt round the ear while there at it ! Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 The bi chap did not ruff up the lad to much when first chucking him off. It was only when the muppet tried to get back on he got hurt. I was a quite lad when I was younger and was picked on at collage until one day I flipped. Unfortunately I did not have the self restraint of the two young men in this thread and would have broken the bullies arm had one of the lectures not intervened. I had practices Ju Jitsu for a few years prior and this poor chap did not know until I floored him and then jumped on him. Still I never had to get violent with him or anybody else at collage after that and never got bullied again. Unfortunately sometimes when the correct channels fail you are left with no option. Quote
jeff oakley Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 The big issue here is simple, when authority is seen to fail individuals will fill the void. The lad on the train was in the wrong, for wahtever reason he had no valid ticket and chose to become a nusciane and was ejected. The parents see no wrong in his actions, the authorities are urged to punish a public spirited man. Many young people are good but too many are not able to see right from wrong. Whne the police and the judical system fail to control it. When teachers fail to stop things and parent condone these things it is inevitable the only options are to fight back. Most when pushed hard enough will fight back. At school I was a big soft lad, but when the "dangler of the school" attacked me I fought back and wiped the floor with him. He never bullied anyone else because he wasn't that tough and people saw that. Bullies only succeed when allowed to. Quote
Tubs Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Ooooo this really gets my goat. WE are responsible for upholding the law. The police, politicians et al work for us BUT they only help. We must not abdicate responsibility. How do you think these issues were handled before the police were around. The people - that's how, no I don't believe that it was perfect BUT when we sit and allow the law to be broken without taking action then we can no longer complain about the number of criminals who get away with it. And breath!!! Tubs Quote

echoz Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 QUOTE If you wish to teach your kids that taking unwarranted physical abuse at the hands of a stranger is ok as long as you tell an authority figure about it afterwards....Well that's your prerogative... New keyboard please +1 from me as well Quote
echoz Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Thats a pretty poor analogy - if you read the thread the bullying had been reported several times and no effective action taken - would you prefer the child just sat back and took the bullying endlessly? At some point it had to stop - it was a shame that it didn't stop at the hands of the teacher, but needs must. So a kid has been taught violence to make up for the failings of grown ups. I still maintain it's teaching kids that violence works solves problems. It's then only a small step to "violence gets you your own way" Have you ever tried telling an authority figure that someone is bullying you? Bullying is physical and mental, being a big bloke (6'4" and 16.5 stone) it's hard to explain to someone that you feel bullied, whether at work, or a few years back at school. I have personal experience of teachers who are so ignorant and naive of how bullying works it's a miracle they were ever put in charge of dealing with such complaints. Just because I am bigger than the person I am complaining about does not mean they cannot bully me and make my life hell. I found at school that telling the teachers numerous times solved nothing as they just didn't believe me. I did find that approaching said bully in the middle of his friends at the end of lunch time one day and headbutting him did solve it, hey presto, I never looked back! I didn't lay the boot in or such, just put him on his A***, said some choice words and that was it, walked away, and I would stick with that choice everytime. Another example would be a group of people myself and my closest friend have had a problem with for a while. I've been attacked by a group of 10+ whilst on my own, on 2 occasions, my closest friend also twice, one time they dragged him off his moped and put him in hospital. One day the ring leader of that group got hit in the face with a wheel wrench, haven't had any trouble from them muppets in a good 2 years now. Just recently this happened again in our local pub, my friend, his brothers (24 and 12 yrs old) and his mother. 2 car fulls turned up and tried to do the business, my friend and his brother were arrested, and now have had to answer bail twice, when they were attacked by 12 people... all because they rung the police first and said we had started it.... it turned out the bloke who kicked it all off ended up in hospital because in amongst the pitch black melay, being as p****d as he was, he'd taken a good kicking. tell the authority, bah humbug the authority canny ever seem to get it right.... Rant over, bullies deserve everything they get Quote

Captain Colonial Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 Just read that the 'Big Man' has been charged with assault. Ok fine, as long as the little scumbag who started it gets charged with fare dodging and public order offences for swearing at the conductor. Quote
