Has the boardroom changed?

Recommended Posts

To answer the question "why do I come here?" after my "self induced exile" caused by various comments by various members. I have deliberately not posted but have popped in to see if I have misjudged some members. There has been considerable change in the tone of conversations which becomes very obvious over time (particularly looking in from the outside).  Some people just do not treat others with respect and I feel vindicated in my initial actions. I have to ask the question - would people on this forum treat people in the same way if they were talking face to face?

so you flounced off because you didnt like what someone said  :D  basically, then come back to moan  :D

i would not be any different  face to face ,people who know me would probably say the same ,one of my major undoings is i dont suffer fools whingers or whiners i have enough of them coming in for estimates at work  :D ,i probably  should have more patience with them but i find it hard ,very hard to suffer there stupidity or even  respect there stupidity and whinging

i will bend over backwards to help any members out even stupid ones  :D  ;) and would buy anyone a pint  :)

I'd like to add something, I don't often post on here now, never posted that actively before really!!! I've tended to keep my posting to things I've felt I could contribute to in a constructive or helpful way. Now this probably isn't going to be one of them, but I'll throw it in anyway.

I think yes it has changed, quite a bit over the last couple of years. But that's only natural I guess as people move on and others take up the 'active' roles. Not saying it's all bad, just that people and their feelings, passions, hobbies change. As the forum will inevitably reflect the personalities and traits of it's most active posters then if you don't happen to have the same sense of humour or agree with the majority of comments you either drift away or post your dislike. If the latter obviously it can lead to tension and an element of banter, arguing, etc.

I still pop on now and then to see what's happening, depending where I am, more often when I'm stuck out here at work for 3 weeks - less often when at home. I've not really done much to the Westfield for the last couple of years apart from drive it to the south of France so haven't really been that active on here. However with some planned upgrades over the winter I may well renew my interest in the club and forum. I'll try dipping my toe in and see what happens I guess.

In fact this could be the first test now. So I'll wait to see the response and take it from there....

No such thing as a stupid question only a stupid answer IMO.  Some people are a bit too quick with their 'stupid' answer and forget how it looks to other people.

Like others I think the answer is that the boardroom has changed because the people have changed and what they are doing has changed as well.  I miss the build threads and was particularly sad to see Adam Reeves' build site has gone.  So much useful stuff in there...

Adam's site is still there it's just not linked in his sig....

Dunno why :suspect: , but a simple google search will easily find it... :t-up:

I've been on here for a fair few years now, and quite honestly I don't think it has changed that much...It still remains one of the best internet forums for getting problems sorted. Period!.

Yes, there are a few fiestly individuals, but that adds depth and variation to threads, and more often than not thier technical knowledge is by far a higher contributing factor to the threads.

I most certainly would never entertain the idea of leaving because I 'didn't like what someone said'...the term 'cutting of your nose to spite your face' springs to mind.

I been on this and the old board for 12 years now and I agree.  The more things change the more they remain the same.

I got flamed bigstyle (and, I thought, quite nastily by one or two) as a newbie (during my build) for suggesting that I might put a radio in my Westy.   12 years ago.  You live with it (or I guess you don't).  I certainly have had loads of help from board members over the years and I think it's a great forum.

And, yes, I did put the radio in.   Can't recall the last time it was switched on though.

I agree with Jenko above (saves me having to form my own opinion... :) )

I'm a member of a few forums and log on for the speciality of them. I don't bother with the chat as it's almost always catty, b***hy or too geeky.  This site is the only one I come back to frequently as the banter is (almost) never that way.

Yes it's changed, but as everyone has said, that's 'cos people come and go. It would be cr@p if there were only the same people here expressing the same opinions, over and over again.

Change is good, get used to it. If you don't like the way the site is going then go elsewhere. Simples!

Put quite simply (IMHO). This is NOT one of the best motoring forums on this InterWeb thingie. It is just THE best.

As a serious lurker and seldom poster, I've always thought this forum to be the best in the internet, by far.

The mix of banter and really good technical knowledge is brilliant.  :t-up:  I have learnt an enormous amount just by doing various searches (Yeah, where is Blatman??)

Granted, some of the regular personalities can be somewhat OTT, especially in their handling of irritating SPAMs, but some of the forums I visit, which have nothing to do with cars whatsoever, are populated by purile-minded morons with all the social skills of a monkey on heat!  :suspect:

I think things go in natural cycles. People move on, and others take their place. C'est la vie!  :p

It's a very good forum filled with mainly great people with the best of intentions.  If everyone is honest, we've all done great things in here and also stuck our feet in our mouths once or twice. I do feel it is slightly over policed on rare occasions under the guise that it's a family site (proof needed please, I think the number of users under 18 is very low).  But there must be a reason it still exists in a vastly unchanged way.
