Changing Colour

I am thinking about changing the colour of my sei. Initially I thought about spray painting it but after a few months of owning the car I think the paint will slowly chip or wear off in certain areas ( on the wings by the doors) showing the original BRG. On Sunday I spoke to someone from the westfield club who had changed the whole body on his car for a bargain price of £800 quid ish. How accurate is this price? Also has the chassis changed since 1994 and will the new body fit like the current one?

Do a search  :D  :D  and have a look for Graham "Windy" Millars now blue / ex yellow car  :D  :D  :D

He did a superb re-spray job himself  :D  :D

If its something you don't feel you can do yourself - then Try Winsford Body Shop  :D  :D  :D

I re-sprayed mine using 2 pack over a polyester primer/filler.  It is noticeable that the primer/filler is showing through around the lower parts of the rear wings.

Possible solutions to this, although I've not carried them out, are:

- use more coats of lacquer

- layer of stone chip under the paint

- clear plastic film on the rear arches (like on P 911s)

Thanks all, I have done some spraying before (not this big a project though). After Donnington this weekend I decided that the clear plastic option was good enough to stop what I was worried about wearing through. the only problem is to decide what colour to spay it. I had thought about that Renalut clio cup sport blue? any ideas?

Hello Amdaudi

this post slipped me by

I had my Westy painted by a good M8 of mine and as he hasnt had alot of experience in painting f/glass he had a chat with a few people in the know after a bit of research he opted to use everything reqd to prep an early Renault Espace (we both work for Renault so this info was available)

and it looks amazing

since the paint its done about 2500 miles and because he coloured the last coat of primer using the base colour of the top coat the couple of chips it has (bottom corners of back wings) the are only just visable

I cant comment on a rubbing issues as I havent used the hood/sidescreens since owning it and am thinking of going over to a aerocreen (if I could find one to fit straight to a Std body)

if you need any pics (close up anywhere) drop me a mail

all the best

Trev

Cheers Trev for your reply. I still haven't decided what to do. Thing is I'm a bit of a skin flint and I always learn lessons the hard way. So I'm not sure If I should change the wjole damn body or paint it. There are a few cracks on the bonnet and by the wheel arches, and I'm wondering if they will come back through after some time.

£800 is pretty accurate for a new body kit. Bear in mind that you might not want a boot box. I had a quote for £700 without cycle wings and boot box on a narrow body car last winter. It was plus VAT though  :arse:
