stickymint Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I have been tasked by the boss to clean up the door handles. They are several years old and the lacquer is now scratched. Is there anything that I can use to get the remaining lacquer off, before giving them a polish with Duraglit? Quote
Mark 1 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 From many years of fitting doors and handles you will never get them looking like new and will always have to keep on top of polishing them, far cheaper in the long run to replace with new, and then leaves you more time to polish the westi and not your door handles..... greenandmean Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Had a customer some years ago in Bridlington his door furniture shone like a beacon despite the sea air, his secret polish once a month with car polish. 3 years on they looked better than when first fitted. Quote
mikef Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I have it on good authority that HP sauce will do the trick. I have no idea why and I haven't tried it myself and would thus appreciate some feedback. My source (no pun intended) is a chap who refurbishes antiques and finds that paint stripper (which also works) tends to damage any surrounding paint. Good luck. Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 We use these. Not only because they look good on an oak door but because I'm lazy Quote
KerryS Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Doesn't cellulose thinners soften the laquer for removal? Even then, when polished and re-lacquered they still don't look like new. Our narrowboat has brass trim and the next one will be chrome. Quote
