RayM Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Hi Guys http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1341562.htm Why is this dealer so b@@@%*Y expensive? Probably gave the Guy £10K if he was lucky against a seriously overpriced porker (yes they want and arm and a leg for those as we) When you speak to them as I did several years ago they go on about their wonderful warranty Blah Blah Blah well it must be good as at this price it costs about £4K extra. Rant over Quote
adamnreeves Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Had to laugh at saying they work on F1 cars and then say that this car went off the scale on their Dyno. Guess the F1 car would go round the dial three times more Quote
funbobby Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 that sack of s***e has been for sale for years hasnt it? Quote
adamnreeves Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 that sack of s***e has been for sale for years hasnt it? I think you are right. I only remembered because they said it was built by a racing team and I remembered looking at the dash and wondering what they were thinking off using standard dials out of a road car and have a trimmed interior. Surely a race team would have used bare seats, no carpets, etc. etc. Quote
peterg Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Adam, it could have been built by a racing team as a ROAD CAR Malton have a good reputation amongst the Porsche forums as providing cars with excellent history and a good backup warranty (which with engines going pop and costing £12k upwards to replace is a good thing). This car has been discussed several times on here and has been reliably described as a bit of a shed by those who have been to look over it hence why it hasn't sold Quote
adamnreeves Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Racing team building a road car, rarely works Malton may have a good rep for Porsche but if the SEiGHT is a shed then that reflects on their judgement full stop. Wish someone would break it for parts and I'd be first in line for the throttle bodies Quote
Captain Colonial Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 There's a fine line between greedy, stubborn and daft, and I think that line's been firmly trampled underfoot. Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 As some of you know I work for a F1 team, indeed have been in and around F1 for the better part of 30 years now. I once bought a fully restored 1957 Triumph TR3, and a lovely car it was too. I owned it for a couple of years and the only job I did was to change the starter from the original unreliable unit to a modern Brise geared starter. Six months after I sold it I saw it advertised on a dealers website, stating it was lovingly restored by a F1 engineer, and asking nearly £6k more than I sold it for! Quote

adamnreeves Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Racing team building a road car, rarely works explain ,do you have facts to back this up Ha ha do I really need to explain the obvious. The clue is between race and road Quote

The clue is between race and road Adam. IMHO your talking b*****ks. I run a race team and am quite happy buiding race, road or rally cars. The key is making what the bloke paying the bill wants and can afford to have built. I have not seen this car in person or know who built it but it would seem to me that unless you know what they were asked to produce or know all the facts you are not in a position to make such broad sweeping statements Regards Quote

I actually doubt this statement in this case as even from the photos you can see the build quality is questionable. Quote
adamnreeves Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 And relax...! I am, I am I just had a bee in my bonnet? about statements like car built by a racing team or F1 engineer. Cheap statements to make. But my original point is why do I want a road car built by a racing team at best it will be expensive and at worst will handle like s***e on the road and will fall apart as it has not been built to last. That will be a broad sweeping statement again but "built by" makes no difference to checking out the car and documentation, etc. Looking at these photos I would not even travel down the road to have a look unless the throttle bodies were up for sale But to level the scales, if it had built by "SteveD" and he confirmed this then this would be a plus point because I know of his work and been impressed along with others. Don't believe I am admitting this, what's wrong with me??? Quote
TIG Brother Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 A car build is only as good as the person / people building the car, regardless of what back ground they come from, F1 engineer / race team etc. In terms of a selling point, putting some thing like that catches unknowing Joe publics attention. ( would you really have an advert that says built by an IT engineer?! ) I'm a F1 engineer, so does this mean in you're view my car build is going to be of poor quality and will fall apart at the first corner?! Hummm.... Quote
