SootySport Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 1. Ford Anglia 105E. Wonderful revvy engine, in the days I had a wife and 3 kids to support. I don't know how we all managed to go camping in this car for years. 2. Hillman Hunter GLS, the Holbay engine was a Cortina 2000GT slayer and reliable. 3. Jaguar XJRS 6.0 V12. I've grown up a bit now. This car took me all round Europe a few times on touring holidays, cruised all day at 140mph but would be a killer on fuel these days. Quote

The lad next to me has 3 kids under 2 and 'had' to buy a VW Transporter to ferry them and thier kit around. How on earth my folks managed with a me and my borther in an Austin Maxi I'll never know. stantman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Linda, was the sort of girlfriend you wanted after a divorce to restore your belief in women kind. We were both early thirties, divorced, she was well above my batting average, she had a great sense of humour and a very inventive nature. All I can say had much more fun in early thirties than in early twenties and the car was one of teh most restrained locations . But no videos and this was before the digital camera age Quote
Hammy Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 1. Ford Anglia for me too - bought for £55 and modded over the years ending with 1500 and lotus steel wheels - kept it for about 5yrs and sold it for £250. A week later it got smashed down the side 2.Mk1 Rs2000. Great fun but very harsh and noisy. Re-built it body wise, Featured in Practical Classics (had a nice signed letter from a young Ms Butler-Henderson who was sub Editor I think- letter viewings by appointment chaps) wish I'd not sold it for.... 3. Capri 2.8i - hooiligan of a car, but it started to wear out quickly and was a bit tired by the time it reached 70k miles (gearbox, diff, injection system, body). Loved the exhaust noise and the fact you could do 70 in second bit of a Ford man I'm afraid also having had 4 mondeos and 2 mk2 Escorts. Mrs H had an old mini which kept going for yrs (used to put the old oil from my Anglia into it at its service -not worth new stuff as it leaked so much) Quote
Dibby Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Loved the old Fords, my MkII Escort key would open and start a mates Capri 2.8 V6 but his key wouldn't open mine. Another mate had a Renault 21 for a first car, Fightcar we'd call it, massive comfy leather sets for rolling about in the back playfighting and drinking with the lads. He lost all the keys and knew what wires to poke together to start it. The Capri owning mate was a bit dodgy, he'd borrow Fightcar in the middle of the night, razz it about and drop it off in the morning so he'd wake up in the morning to the 'tink, tink' noise of a cooling engine and no fuel left. carbonizer Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 My best 3 owned, although in no particular order: 1/ Ford Capri 3ltr GXL, at 19 yrs old this car was a real posing machine with great straight line performance. 2/ Alfa Romeo 1600 GT Junior, trimmed like a speed boat! 3/ TVR 5ltr Griffith, Unbeleivable performance and looks for the money, if you can keep it going. i think the worst 3 would be more entertaining but lets leave that for another post Quote
Arm Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The one that gave us the most smiles and could get rid of a bad headache was the Mk1 MX5. The others I miss include a 1600 Sport Mk 2 Escort - sideways motoring with ease. Recently a V6 A4 Quattro and the V6 Touareg (liked those so much I had 3). Quote
double-trouble Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 i think the worst 3 would be more entertaining but lets leave that for another post We've a thread going on it already - come and share! http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin....t=90692 Quote
