moomin Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 not all about out and out performance its about the sun shining and enjoying the drive. I think someone has hijacked your account... Personally, I can't get over that all 4-seat soft tops looks like boats out for a bit of pleasure cruising - they just look wrong. moomin Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 The things I've found out about owning a 4-seat cabrio are: > Body and scuttle shake, creak and groan due to lack of rigidity on many models. After a while, you begin to think the car's possessed due to all the noises. > Generally speaking, lack of decent legroom and width in the back, which is OK if you have children under the age of ten or regularly transport amputees (no offence meant to anyone out there with relatives who are amputees, just making a point). When the kids grow up, they start fighting about who rides in front. (This won't be a problem for Jeff, since as per normal, he'll only own it for six months anyway!) > Buffeting is generally much worse in the back on larger cabrios than the front for obvious reasons. This is fun for a very short period of time, after which it becomes annoying, then irritating, then painful and tiring. In other words, not great for runs of over about an hour with the top down. If you're willing to accept all that, go for it. I agree a RS4 would be cracking, but if you want something fun, I'd still consider something unusual like a Mustang or Camaro. Does the A5 come in cabrio? Quote
lippydave Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Does the A5 come in cabrio? S5-Cabrio-Roadtest Unimaginative tho IMHO... Quote
Blatman Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 He's spent too much time calling Tommo and the other V8 boys a bunch of gayers. He'd be in sooo much trouble... even though he's right Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Got it. Something that will seat four, open top, high driving position for commanding views, not a V8, even off-road capable. Here ya go HTH! Quote

And the autopilot system is amazing! in a taxi journey once from the airport to hotel in New Delhi, at about two in the morning overtook one of these heading into the city; it was trundling along, quite oblivious, with a family of four riding up top, all fast asleep. Slightly shocked, we asked that taxi driver if they were allowed on the road like that. He just shrugged, and said no, but who's going to argue! Quote

Captain Colonial Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 OK, no Yank muscle cars, no elephants... how about two Cateringvans welded nose to tail? Four seats, lots of power, open tops, separation of adults and offspring - perfect. No? Out of ideas now. Quote
JeffC Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 older M3? believe theyre straight 6? good cars Ive had a few of those in the past and again good vfm, mate of mine just sold a mint 51 plate for £7,500! first one I bought was £35k Quote
echoz Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 So why not buy another? Me old man brought one that needed work, for 3.5k end of last summer spent the winter sanding everything down, destroying rust with the plan of restoring it to showroom condition, it's just gone for paint this week and its a cab ETA: it's on an L reg, E36 shape Quote
