Options when placing order

I plan to order a Zetec 2.0l kit from Westfield int the next month or so and am just tying down the spec.  I plan to do Autocross and trackdays.

Are Westfields upgrade shocks AVO's ?

Is it worth getting ARB's ?

Should I not bother with the Std Westfield exhaust?

What wheel option should I go for, or get externally?

Are the 4 pot westfield brakes OK?

What TB injection kit do they use, is it up to significant engine tuning?

Finally can you do delete options on the westfield kits and get credit for it, i.e. no hood, heater etc.

Lots of questions I know, however want to go to factory with as much info as possible.

Cheers,

Neil

You can purchase as much or as little as you wish from one source ;)  ;)  :D  :D

The club also have Speed Series sponsors and specialists such as:

Cat Motorsport who can supply 4 pot brakes, AVO and Leda shocks + springs, roll bars, wide track front suspension, poly bushes etc etc etc

Plays Kool - who can build your car specific to your spec and supply carbon goodies galore including panels and seats + wiring.

Then there are engine specialists such as ProTune and Ferriday Engineering for Ford engines.

SBD Motorsport for anything Vauxhall powered.

Wunoff for stainless steel exhausts.

Winsford Body Shop for spraying and building

These are just a few club sponsors that can offer items and services to WSCC members.

+ the club mag contains info on ProComp Motorsport

The choices are wide  :D  :D  :D  ;)  ;)  ;)  :D and varied to suit each individuals needs  :D  ;)  All companies have a comprehensive knowledge of Westfields and offer mail order on components  :D  :D

The simple answer to most of the above is to shop around.   Some things are cheaper from Westfields, but the majority you will get better and cheaper stuff elsewhere.   You didn't say whether you were opting for a module build, or starter kit?

If you are going for modules, you can tell them you don't want this that and the other, and they will adjust the prices accordingly.   (Parts catalogue price less 25% I recall).

If you're going for a Zetec, drop the MT75 box and specify a type nine.   Get Avo's, and if you're using the car on trackdays, you might be better off without their silencer because you'll need a repackable one to pass noise regs at some venues I suspect.   For competition, I reckon you'll be wanting a limited slip diff too.   A search here will pull up all the (lengthy) discussions on the subject of diffs.

ARB's can be sourced elsewhere cheaper.   4 pot brakes are probably just a luxury, but if you have loads of dosh, twin master cylinders (balancable), and a four pot set up would be the way to go I reckon.

Do you plan on getting the car through SVA for use on the roads?   If so, you'll need a heater.

I can't help with the throttle bodies question, but I'm sure someone will be along in a minute who can fill you in on that.

Jeez Mark, you're quick  :D

Just one other important investment - join the club.   Great magazine, sound advice (mostly), and a friendly but competitive speed series to boot.    :D

Thanks for your replies, Mark & Neil.  I am going to take the car abroad, so want to put as much in the crate as possible.  Had a look at all the vendors you talked about, some really nice stuff, just the logistics which are difficult.  If I can get stuff from Westfield at a similar price, then that would be best.

I may get a modules 1-3 and bits from Westfield, or may try a full kit with delete options, whichever is cheaper.

Will Westfield swap the MT75 for a type 9?

SVA and noise not an issue here in Dubai.

Thanks again,

Cheers,

Neil.

If you have an MT75 suitable chassis and fit a type 9 gearbox it enables you to get the engine much further back and thus improving weight distribution  :D  :D  ;)

Also Type 9 ratios for track use are much more readily available and suited  :D  :D  ;)

Other options qorth considering:

- RAC rollbar (get detachable rear stays)

- fuel and brake pipes run down the tunnel

- ali chassis panels powder coated.

- mounting points for 6 point harnesses

TBs are Jenvey/Luminition, with MBE managament I believe. With a 2l, you'll have to get it mapped before you can start it, as they only have a map for the 1.8. You might want to consider sourcing the ECU yourself, as some RRs aren't keen to work with the MBE ecu, although there's nothing wrong with them AFAIK.

Nowt wrong with MBE, just that the mapping software needs a bit of getting used to - not something you can just pick up and use IMO as it's not inherently user friendly.

Yup Aeroscreen is the way to go, lots of woman pay to get there faces peeled and scrubbed, come to Dubai and drive my Westfield in 6 months time for a free facial sandblasting.

OK I am pretty computer literate, however no experience with FI, is mapping the ECU going to be a problem?

Thinking of running without carpets, would you still powder coat the panels?

Oh Yeah and again, Will Westfield swap the MT75 for a type 9?

Cheers lads, this site is adictive, now must go and join WSCC :p

Mapping would need to be done on a rolling road by an experienced engine mapper. (Or on an engine dyno, come to think of it).

If you're running without carpets, definitely powder coat the panels.

I'm pretty sure westfield will supply a type 9 on request - it requires different gearbox mounts on the chassis though, so make sure you specify it at the start ;-)

From my experience of desert driving, I'd make damned sure I had a windscreen - that sand hurts!!!!

I was out in the Sinai for 6 months in a Renegade Jeep courtesy of Uncle Sam.   Tried it with the windscreen down, but only the once!

Westfields would make excellent dune buggies if they had another 8 inches of ground clearance  :D

No rolling roads out here JIm, so I think I am going to have to try and get a map loaded that is close and then do it the old fashioned way using my ar*eonometer.

Any more suggestions on a way round this apreciated.

Although I do have my concerns about this place it is a bit more modern than the Sinai, Neil, anything less than a 4 lane highway is unusual.

ditch the fuel injection and go for webers is one option.

ditch the mbe and go for something more user friendly so you can optimise yourself.  you could try the emerald as a user friendly option. I know lots of people who have mapped these themselves. also buy dave walkers book on the subject as that is really helpfull.

get people to email you there maps and then see which one works best on your engine.
