wrightster
i have noticed that my drivers side cycle wing is catching on the bodywork on full right lock and marking both the wing and the bodywork, i think that if i was to somehow lower the mounting bracket this would probably push it even nearer the body any ideas ? Also on the left hand side there is only about half an inch clearence (on full lock) is that about right ? TIA
fordy
Mine hit too. You can buy bushes that fir on the steering rack to limit its travel, thereby not allowing the cycle wings to touch the bodywork.
studbuckle
If it's hitting on one side and not the other then you might be able to wind a turn off one track rod and add one to the other, therfore keeping the tracking straight but moving centre to the centre of the rack. Clive
CAt Motorsport do some nice lock stops. However you do need to remove the track arms to fit them Clive NCJASC

Megablade Paul
Wrightster, try Studbuckles suggestion first as this will keep as much lock as possible. Remember to count the turns and do exactly the same number on each side
steppenwolf
If it's hitting on one side and not the other then you might be able to wind a turn off one track rod and add one to the other, therfore keeping the tracking straight but moving centre to the centre of the rack. This is how I resolved this issue on my own car - it worked a treat! I marked both tie rods with 'snopake' so that I could accurately count the turns, tightened it all up, changed the position of the steering wheel and all was well. To remove the scuffing, rub down with first 1200 and then 1500 wet and dry ( very wet with some washing up liquid in the water ) then attack the area with 'Brasso' and a nice cloth and finally polish the whole panel with Autoglym Resin Polish - you will never see the 'damage' again! Quick_Learner
just to revisit this topic...... is there anything that can be done to stop the cycle wings catching on (new build) the headlamps (even with the spacers) and the bodywork? Or do i need a new modified steering rack from Westfield as they suggested (even though in the book it states a standard escort rack which ive fitted - ddrrrrrrr?!??! ) Isn't there anything that can be done retrospectively? (big word friday!! ) QL
lunny
I did what youve done and failed its first MOT for the arches fouling the bodywork. I removed the rubber gaiters, marked the ball joint housing at the right place, then drilled and tapped a 4mm hole. In it put a shortened 4mm stainless cap head screw, which then stops the rack moving whent he cap head hits the outer housing. This was done to both sides. Im not recommending this, and would buy the proper stops now but 4yrs ago i knew no different. It is however something that can be done without having to strip the steering apart. Mark Stanton
is there anything that can be done to stop the cycle wings catching Speak to the guys at Cat Motorsport
sedsy
I think tracking and ride height can affect how close to lights they cycle wings can get !! I had far too much toe in on mine and they hit the lights when reversing off drive with near full lock on.
