Swapping our hub/router position tonight and will need a Wireless USB Adapter ("N" type).

I will be visiting PC World today to get one. As the prices vary from £10.00 to £80.00 and the support team are only 16 yrs old and only interested in a sale...... can someone recomend a decent N type wireless USB adapter that has a very good range.

I got mine from ebay, N type but a good speed, paid approx £25 for it

I've only ever been let down by Belkin, my recommendation is Netgear.

If its going in a tower machine, stay away from the nano form factor, the antenna performance is significantly affected by the PC chassis. A USB extender cable can also be a good idea so you can position the antenna in free space.

An excellent alternative to wireless is the home-plug system, if you are connecting fixed equipment (i.e. router to a PC) at a reasonable range, these are definitely the way to go (I use them, and i work for a company that makes wireless technology!) - Ethernet-over-mains

Recommended to me by a PC techy person

About £9 from E-buyer

So far so good, seamless, it works but I was told not to plug directly into the chassis but use a USB lead to get the best from it.

I would second Ninja's suggestion of the home plug system if it's for a pc.

Wireless probably is the way to go for a laptop though.

It is for a PC.

The hub/router is hard wired to a PS3 and gives wireless to 2x laptops. The adaptor is for a PC elsewhere in the house.

Thanks for the advice guys   :t-up:

Cisco Linksys works well on mine.

If buying on eBay, make sure that the model you are looking at is supplied with drivers for your OS. I had to buy a new one when I upgraded to Win7-64  --  my old Belkin was the only piece of hardware which failed to work.

Cheers guys.

Purchased two 84MBs sockets and they are running excellently.

I cannot see why anyone would use Wireless Dongles at home after trying these :t-up:  :t-up:  :t-up:
