mikef Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Those that I can remember in order of my fading memory: Opel Rekord drop head - early 50's. Austin A90 Atlantic drop head - the one with the two headlights and a central spotlight in the grill. Wolseley 1500 Wolseley 15/50 similar to the MG Magnette Wolseley 15/60 - rather boxlike Austin A110 - great big tank of a thing with a strip speedo Austin 1800 - his first front wheel drive car Austin Princess - the wedge shape. Apart from the Opel he always bought British - very patriotic! Sadly, he died in 1984 at 59. He wasn't a petrolhead but would have enjoyed the Westie. Quote
GINGESEIW Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Before I was born he had a couple of beetles..........kind of cool (I liked them until I learned about cars) More recently, a Triumph stag (manual O/D), Gilbern Invader estate (loved this car, had a fantastic exhaust note!) One car he had that was great was a 1994 Mitsubishi Galant V6 24v, pretty descreet but seem to remember it went pretty well. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Vauxhall Ventura 3.3 Ltr, not great on looks, but lightweight car with a BIG straight six out of the much bigger cresta. Should have been really reliable, but was Crap reasonably fast when going well, but not the car it promised to be. Other than that he had loads of big Granada's which were BORING Quote

markcoopers Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 My Dad nicked one of my Westfields for 8 months, that was his best car. Or the Alfa Sud, or the Honda Activan........that was sodding indestructable Quote
sailing Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Dad's cars were a genuine GT40 and later a couple of DB5,s and DB6's, before he got old and slipped into Bentleys and Rolls. Actually my Dad never owned a car, was he was a brickie and use to pick me up from school with his hand cart complete with ladders. There was only the butcher who had a car by us, a Morris traveller. But he was a great Dad and I was proud to ride on his hand cart from school. Quote
perksy Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Dads First car was a Dark Green Ford Cortina Mk1 1600 Deluxe Reg DDA 757C Then moved onto an Eggshell Blue Vauxhall Viva Reg CRF 167E Quote
Bob Green Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I think the best car my Dad ever owned in the ‘60’s was a Vauxhall Cresta (PB type). My best mate and I would drive to Brighton on a Saturday night to have a little fun. Boy, was that car a babe magnet or what. Quote

Barry S Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Mummm Dare I.... OK, my dad’s cars consisted of a series of Reliant Robins. Possibly the worst car in the world but I did not care as he taught me to drive in it at the age of 13, I loved him for that We used the cemetery that backed onto my parent’s house for lessens, probably explains a thing or two about my driving. I repaid him a couple of years later by writing one of his Reliants off, well it was a mate who had yet to pass his test who did the deed but thats a whole other story Quote
peterg Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 My Dad wasn't a petrolhead by any means as proven by: First car he ever owned was a Morris Minor 1000 (dark grey) bought in about 1965/6 next was a Vauxhall Victor 101 in battleship grey with 3 speed column gearchange and bench seats... I used to ride shotgun in this car regaularly as we took/collected my sister from college in Bristol. then in 1972 he bought a brand new Vauxhall Viva HC, all 1256cc of it in Cameo(non-metallic paint, a sort of sandy beige) and Saddle(slightly darker beige vinyl upholstery) - he kept this car for years and in 1976 I bought a 1973 Vauxhall Viva 2300SL (poor mans's RS2000) to keep it company after his retirement in mid 80s he had a sucession of Ford Fiestas and then Rover 213s until he finally stopped driving due to ill health in about 2000. V8grunt Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 NUT 355 Austin shooting brake, The back roof thingy used to lift off, it had 3 hooped sections and a canvas roof, We used to take it off and put it in the garden as a tent to play in! The number plate would be worth a fortune now! Wonder what happened to NUT 55? Quote
