wilsonch Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Sparky I run 18ish F&R on R888's, for the track would lower that a bit more to 16ish. chris Quote
sparky21 Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Lower the pressure for the track? thought it best to increase the pressure slightly?? also how have you found the 888r's? am on the look for some new supperior dry grip track/road tyres Quote
wilsonch Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Lower pressure because when they heat up the pressure will increase (hot air in the tyre) The 888's are a great tyre but i am probably not the best person to give informative information as thats all its ever had on. You are best off taking the advice from people who race of Geoffc whos has done a more that a few track days. Correct me if i am wrong but the 888's (and others) will soon (dont know how soon) be illegal for the road, due to some random EU law regarding road legal track tyres so get them whilst you can.... sparky21 Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 very true wilson was having a bit of a blonde moment there lol... Quote

On the track, on slicks, I generally start at 16 psi all around, then lower them to 16 psi again after the first 3-4 sessions as soon as I get back to the pits. This can mean progressively taking out 6-8 psi on a hot sunny grippy day. I you then have a really long lunch break then the cold pressure might only be 10psi or less so you need to be a bit careful going back out on the track again. If the pressure differential gets too big then changing to dry nitrogen rather than 'wet' air is more linear. You also want to pump them up again after you've finished so that you can push it around earier and load the trailer OK. Quote
sparky21 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 those kiwi's know there stuff hey... very good advise though thank you Quote
sparky21 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 also chaps i need to replace the floor pan on the rear of the xtr, well not need to but want to due to a tiny bit of damage and without having the car infront of me i cant remember if it is one solid piece or in sections?? also wouls westfield be likely to supply this or just a case of getting some cut to size? Thanks chaps Quote
Kiwi XTR2 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Some owners have put an access panel into the rear floor pan. This might be a good opportunity to get some pics of what they have done and decide whether to do this as well. I'd be inclined to find a good local fabricator who supply this for you. Might even get a discount for offering him a ride if he's keen Quote
sparky21 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 thanks well if anyone does have any pictures that would be very helpfull, but what about how many pieces the floor pan is in, can anyone remind me on that one?? Quote
wilsonch Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 from memory the piece is from the rear bulk head cross member on the frame to the rear of the car i.e behind the driver but infront of the fuel tank.... but i will check to make sure. I am one of those who cut a massive hole to give access to the under side of the engine. PM me youe e-mail address and i will send you the pics. chris Quote
NelsonS Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 it would be a good idea to put in a hinged access panel marc, so you could get to underneath the engine on a flat ramp with out having to jack it up. Quote
sparky21 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 ah cheers chris... come to that how do i send a pm?? lol still bit new to all this forum shinanigans lol... and nelson how goes it? very good idea, joking aside the ramp at your garage? if i got the westy over there what are chances of getting it done there if it may take a couple of days, how would your manager get on with that, ie how busy is that particular ramp? cheers Quote
NelsonS Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 its an mot ramp mate, so cant leave car on it as its in use everyday, but no reason why you couldnt get on it on a saturday morning when im there, just gotta put some planks over the rollers so you can drive onto it. dont think the boss would be too happy with it being there to be honest, shame it wont go on a 2 poster ramp as ive got a spare one in the valeting bay it could sit on, we could just leave it in the air when we were cleaning cars underneath. Quote
sparky21 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 lol yea very true, well I suppose if i got the panel made up and ready and got it there beforehand would it poss be done on a sat morn lol??? also have a look at the escort thread if you havent already? had over 200000 views, absolutley epic restoration..... Quote
NelsonS Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 yeah no worries to do it on a saturday mate, im sure the boys at work would be happy to see the westy, especially if you were doing passenger rides! lol. will have a look at the escort thread in a min. Quote
