Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 However all that said, in general, championships tend to find a natural level. One that the scrutes are happy with on a meeting to meeting basis and one which the competitors understand and accept. For example in my particular championship class, which is run under the Roadgoing Specialist Production Cars category none of us run with passenger seats. Perhaps we should but there is sufficient confusion in the regs for it not be a clear issue worth pursuing on either side. We as competitors are happy with that as are the scrutes. Absolutly right Steve, everyone competing with similarly speced cars. Where they all agree the standard. Makes for good friendly competition Quote
Annie Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I recall that quite a few event supplementary regs (Lydden, Hethel, Llys-y-Fran,....) are specific about requiring trimmed seats (2) for a road-going Westy. I have my doubts about a kart seat satisfying the typical descriptions in regs ("The front seats may be replaced but both must be capable of carrying a normal adult in a reasonably safe and comfortable manner", and "The removal of seats and interior trim...is not permitted, but...the front seat [singular, meaning driver's only?] may be replaced by a competition version which must be fully trimmed..."), but I suppose that you can take the risk. Another consideration is that there are generally a number of championships represented in all classes at an event and it would be a bit unfortunate to be protested (by a non-WSCC competitor) from Roadgoing to Sports Libre for the sake of a couple of kgs saved on a seat. Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 will this one do annski So that's for your bum cheek's Steve, where is the rest of you going to fit Quote

Annie Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 will this one do annski That's the sort of thing that we had been looking at as a passenger seat for the next LS-engined car (if we ever scrape the money together) since it looks like it will fit nicely below a tonneau. The only sticking point would be the lack of headrest ~ necessary for IVA and/or MOT? Annie. Quote
SteveD Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 annski i have a carbon f1 head restraint from the 90's on the rear bulkhead , anyway do they really look at scroatineering plonk a decent seat in for iva then whip the b****r out and fit a kart seat Quote

In terms of sprinting the passenger seat would not need a headrest, but the drivers one definately does. If you are going to carry passengers then they are a very good thing to have. But it all depends on whether you are trying to comply with the rules at minimum weight or build a passenger safe car ? Quote

Hi Nick, Getting the car through IVA is something that I am certain Westfield will be able to achieve (and I will be happy to leave it up to them), possibly using 2 standard Westfield seats. After the IVA we may use a passenger seat like the one SteveD posted but with a removable headrest just in case anyone is mad enough to be a passenger on journeys to events (still not intending to trailer the next car either).
