Blatman Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 17% what da h3ll is vat? never heard in the US......you need a tea Party then VAT is the UK version of state tax (sort of), except it's country wide rather than state wide so it's the same for everybody. It's currently 17.5% and it's going to be 20% in the New Year to help generate some revenue for UK PLC. As for inflation, right now, we *need* inflation up around the 3 to 4 % mark. Any higher and we'll be in trouble. This is where the Treasury and the B of E Monetary Policy Unit will earn their keep, keeping interest rates low whilst still controlling inflation. It's going to be a tricky balancing act, and the opposition will simply attack the increasing inflation and rely on everyone believing the left leaning tabloids into blaming the Tories for "making a mess of the economy". Oh the irony... Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 The problem is that this is imported inflation rather than economic growth led inflation. Quote
SteveD Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 i blame the chinese , if it wasn't for them little boil in the bag b*******s we wouldnt be in this mess again Quote
Blatman Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 With the economy the way it is, I don't think it matters as much as it might normally. And the weak pound helps with exports Once we've got over the worst of it (ie, got some money into the coffers) then we can worry about fine tuning and the balance between imported or home grown inflation... IMHO of course Quote
