I think it's a great idea, there's too much street lighting and too many road signs.

Too many politicians too but I doubt we'll get anything done about that.

yup i agree, i used to drive from wigan to runcorn on a monday night about 11pm i'd see a dozen vehicles at best  but the whole motorway was lit? why? I can understand over the thewall viaduct and at major junctions but for the normal road whats the point. even if they made it every 3rd light that was on (i know this would be costly its only an idea) it would be better??

whats wrong with just maintaining the road and keeping the cats eyes fixed? just like on a new piece of road where you can see your lanes etc easilly

It will be interesting to see if they turn it off in urban residential areas as well as non residential.

There is a theory (unproven) that street crime is greatly reduced in areas with better lighting. So saving millions in electricity costs may result in millions being lost to higher crime!

But the council saves money, according to our local council, street lights are to illuminate the road and not for the purpose of crime prevention  :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:   Its all about passing the buck :suspect:  :suspect:
