Changing to 5 speed

I am considering changing to a type 9 gearbox from a type 3 four speed item.

Does anyone know if the existing prop shaft will fit or will this need to be replaced as well?

It won't need replacing but modifying  :D

The end yolk that fits into the gearbox will need to be changed as it has a different number of splines and will need shortening a tad as the 5 speed box is slightly longer  :D  :D  ;)

There are loads of specialist companies ou there that can do it  ;)  :D  :D

You may not have to change anything.  I recently replaced my 4 speed with a Type 9 5 speed and in preparation purchased a prop yoke for the Type 9.  However when I removed the 4 speed box and stood the Gearbox on the bell housing along side the 5 speed, the measurements were exactly the same length at both the gearbox tail shaft casing and the main shaft protrusion.  Further to this, the prop yoke fitted both.

Having 3 gearboxes in the garage at the moment I can answer.

The Type 9 is longer than the standard type 3 4-speed and will therfore require a modified prop. However if you ahve the type 2 4-speed then it is the same length  and thefore you only need worry about moving the gearbox mounting and changing the yoke to match the larger diameter output shaft of the 5 speed

Hi Mark

I really didn't know there were different types of 4 speed gearbox (ie Type 2 and 3).  Normally my luck is akin for me to falling into a bucket of tits and come out sucking my thumb!
