DavidC Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Has anyone got any hints/tips for cost saving on the heater matrix+ducting, and the wipers? I don't really fancy spending the £200+ that Westfield want for the heater kit, and ditto for the wiper kit. Are there any recommended donor parts I should start looking out for. One of the boys in my office has a garage full of Mini bits, which of those could I use? If there's a good way to do these 2 parts on the cheap, I'll put a windscreen on. Cheers DC Quote
Mike H Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 You could spend the £200 on an aeroscreen instead! no windscreen, no wipers, no dimister, no washer, no heater(maybe), less switches etc. Mike Quote
DavidC Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 Aeroscreen was the original plan, but I'm not 100% sure about it so am looking at the other options. Besides, I wouldn't pay the £200 on the screen, I'd get the c******m style one from just-the-one.net for £80. It covers the holes that a windscreen uses, so they're kinda interchangable. Still looking at Windscreen options tho... DC Quote
Mike H Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Fair enough. The only thing I know about Mini parts then, is that some people use the mini heater mounted on top of the tunnel under the dash. But you have to cut a chunk off the bottom of it so it will fit. Someone else out there must know about wiper parts.....have you got a Europa parts catalogue? They sell a lot of that sort of thing - might give you some pointers. cheers Mike Quote
JamesD Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 I understand that the Mini wiper motors are OK to use, also a Metro Heater unit can be made to fit. But I would get an aeroscreen... JD Quote
juansolo Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 I have a heater in very good condition for sale. £35 + postage (prolly about £10). You'd need to sort out the ducting for it. Click for picture. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Mini heater and marina/mini wiper motor Quote
DavidC Posted December 19, 2002 Author Posted December 19, 2002 And where are the wiper arms from, or should I just buy them off westfield? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Wiper arms are a small unit made by Tex - found at a few kit car shows sold by folks such as Europa - maybe just as easy from Westfield Quote
Blatman Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 I just wouldn't bother with a heater at all............. Quote
Blatman Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 .....unless Juan is selling one, in which case, buy his. You won't regret it............ Quote
Carl Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 I just wouldn't bother with a heater at all............. If it's a new build you'll need one for SVA (demisting) Quote
