Brake calipers

I know it's probably a daft question, but as I am new to the wonderful world of westfields, I would appreciate your help in identifying the type of rear calipers fitted to my 1998 se. They have the numbers 0659/4 and 0658/4. Also does anyone know of a supplier of refurbished brakes parts in the Leeds area?

Phil, your car description is 98 SE. Does this mean that it doesnt have independant rear suspension? If it is a live axle, then somebody has converted it to discs and they could be anything.......

Usually Westy's fitted with disc brakes on the rear are IRS and have Sierra rear calipers fitted.

Stu, its got a live axle and yes it has been converted to discs. On closer inspection the calipers are Ford derived and are the floating type, do you think these sound like Sierra ones?

Phil,

Have a look at the Rally Design website because they do, I think, a disc conversion for Escort axles and it *may* give you some clues.

They're a helpful bunch so I'm sure if you gave them a call they could offer some other info / suggestions about what calipers they might be.

Chances are they're off something like a Sierra because they'd need to have a hand brake mechanism.

As Nick says, chances are that they are off a Sierra, if they have an integral handbrake mechanism. I dont recall any other caliper made by Ford that has an integral mechanism.

Try brousing through some of the other folks build sites (found at the home page), if they look like calipers fitted to IRS cars, they will be Sierra.
