pincher Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I and SWIMBO are going to belgium at the end of the month for a week in the westy and need a bit more luggage space. Had a couple of ideas but this seems to work. Anybody done anything similar ? Ian. http://avatars.gentlyhosting.co.uk/17158.jpeg http://avatars.gentlyhosting.co.uk/17157.jpeg Quote
Stuart Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Someone once told me to tell my passengers not to use the screen as a handle to climb out as it bust the screen - think this might have a similar effect and you could be in danger of busting it, especially with any weight in the box.. Will stand being corrected though Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 PMSL at least you wont need to pack the half hood I remember seeing pictures of a car on a GOME event a while back that had paniers attached to the outside of the bodywork. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Unless you bolt it to a full cage I wouldn't recommend bolting to windscreen ........... it'll end in expensive tears. Luggage rack from Paul Ashwick and learn to pack well and travel light Quote
pincher Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 I figure that if I put most of the weight at the back it should be O.K. Ian. Quote

Ian.http://avatars.gentlyhosting.co.uk/17158.jpeg http://avatars.gentlyhosting.co.uk/17157.jpeg Send yer gear via courier to an address in Belgium, then freight it back the same way? Leave the bird at home (or send by coach/air)! and fill up the passenger side with stuff a bloke needs for a week away...credit card, clean T-shirt, skiddies and a toothbrush.... Quote
stephenh Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I wouldn't do it if I had a windscreen. I bought a Paul Ashwick luggage rack, and the largest size of Ortlieb waterproof kit bag. I was able to tour Wales last summer with Mrs H. for 9 days like that. 2 luggage straps secure the kit bag to the rack very securely. If you want to camp, then you need a lightweight tent and waterproof bag for your sleeping bags, which would then go on top of the kitbag, and secure it in place with an "octopus" grab. We didn't have to do that, because we were staying in Country Hotels. Quote
