samcooke Posted November 25, 2002 Posted November 25, 2002 I'm thinking about rebodying my 89 SE. Lots of reasons really, but mainly cos it's getting tatty and has had a new bonnet at some stage, the colour of which doesn't match. Am I asking for trouble even trying it? TIA. Oh, and can anyone tell from my little piccy if I've got lowline bodywork please. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 25, 2002 Posted November 25, 2002 You may have to order your Se narrow body and wait a while, but it shouldn't be tooooo much trouble High or low nose - can't tell - but you might be able to use a high nose and have all remaining bodywork to suit - it'll give you a bit more room The chassis was the same just the bonnet and nose-cone moulds differ and voila new looking car Quote
Rob Navin Posted November 25, 2002 Posted November 25, 2002 I have just swapped the body work from this years car onto last years, and am about to start putting new body work on this years. The swap was no problem. When you order the new kit from Westfied bear two things in mind. If you order the narrow bodywork they order the narrow cycle wings, if your running wide wheels you will have to ask for these when you order. The other thing to consider is price. The lightweight body work is cheaper and they were more than happy to do a deal on the full lot when I orderd mine. It did take two months to arive though. Hope this helps Rob Quote
chazpowerslide Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 After Xmas I'll be re-bodying my pre-lit I'll let you know how it goes. Chaz. Quote
Graham.J Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 What sort of price is it to rebody, as eventually I want to change mine? (also an 89 SE) Cheers Quote
samcooke Posted November 26, 2002 Author Posted November 26, 2002 New tub with fixed arches is £536 inc VAT I wouldn't need the bonnet or scuttle so didn't ask but a nosecone is £188.00 Not bad. After Xmas I'll be re-bodying my pre-lit I'll let you know how it goes. That'd be good if you could fella, I was planning to do mine Februaryish. Quote
cashy Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 Can these new tubs be ordered in any colour, or does it have to be one of westfields colours? Also is it easy enought to paint a westy? Someone mentioned the body will flex and may crack if you sont use special paints..... Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 yes this had crossed my mind too after some b******d drove into the back of the bandit. now i have some lovely cracks in the back, oh and the woman drove into the back off me while i was stationary @ a junction, oh and someone left a huge piece of steel in the road and i have a nice gash in the wheel arch. and its a bit faded and chared and scratched. #### ive never thought of all that together. its a right state! samcooke Posted November 27, 2002 Author Posted November 27, 2002 Can these new tubs be ordered in any colour, or does it have to be one of westfields colours? Dunno, ask them. But Westfield do pretty much every colour you could ever want nowadays - even lime green, although apparantly they've only sold five cars with this colour bodywork. That's Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, PJ off Byker Grove (after the paintball incident), David Blunkett and Kermit the frog. Mr Rock On, lets not be too silly. After all the pretend cash you've blown on pretend engine mods would the wife really agree to a pretend new body as well? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 they've only sold five cars with this colour You forgot Blatters and Tom W from ooooop North Quote
Blatman Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 Some would say.........crap colour..... I'd say......exclusive......... Quote
samcooke Posted November 27, 2002 Author Posted November 27, 2002 I think the five bit is a genuine statistic, or so I've been told. My Dad always chose car colours with the phrase 'I don't want to have the same colour as everyone else, son'. Hence a pink capri (oh yes) and later both flat beige and metallic beige Maestros. He also badly wanted the special edition Harlequin Polo (remember that?) but couldn't stretch to it at the time. Quote
Blatman Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 I've only ever seen 4, including mine........... Quote
samcooke Posted November 27, 2002 Author Posted November 27, 2002 I'm told (again) number five is a megablade that's under construction in a garage in deepest Essex and will surface in the new year. Quote
cashy Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 Who is the best chap to speak to at westfield regarding car body parts, am going to call them tomorrow to get a quote. Adrian Quote
