westy turbo Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 So it can be done with the honda box,or it needs the ford item in there,if i remember correct, the stock one is kinda long? Quote
thos Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Yes, it has been done with the Honda box. The bellhousing is quite chunky, so possibly need to modify the top tunnel chassis rail if you want to get it far enough back. Ratios arent ideal - I think it's used as a 4spd in a Westie 2nd to 5th! Quote
westy turbo Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 So then ford item will be better with some gear kit i quess? Quote
thos Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Needs to be a half-decent gearbox to handle 250bhp and 9000rpm anyway. Mick uses Elite sequential gearbox, I'm using Quaife 26Z sequential, and I think Derek is using the new quaife 60G in his supercharged K20. Quote
Jumpy07 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 People keep emailing me asking me the difference between the Zetec and ST, thought I would post the tech detail that Ford published for reference... Focus ST170 From 2002.5 MY, the sporty Focus ST170 has been added to the Focus range. The ST170 is available in 3/5-door variants and in wagon version. It is offered exclusively with a 2,0L DuraTec-ST engine. The key differences to the existing Focus with a 2,0L Zetec-E engine are modifications to the powertrain and the chassis. Most of the modifications to the 2,0L DuraTec-ST engine have been made in the area of the cylinder head. It now has revised camshafts with an adjustable intake camshaft. The valve diameter has been increased and the valve springs uprated. Further modifications have been made in the areas of the pistons and connecting rods, the air cleaner with additional intake pipe and the intake system with variable intake pipe geometry and modified throttle valve unit. Most of the modifications to the 2,0L DuraTec-ST engine have been made in the area of the cylinder head. The maximum power output is 127 kW (173 PS) with a maximum torque of 198 Nm. Engine - General Information The 2,0L DuraTec-ST engine of the Focus ST170 is largely based on the previously used 130 PS engine. The cylinder block used for the Focus ST170 is the same as the one found in Contour/Mystique vehicles for US markets. No changes have been made in terms of the oil filter or the service intervals. The location of the engine code has changed on the 2,0L DuraTec-ST engine compared to the 130PS 2,0L Zetec-E engine. It is now located on the left-hand side front of the cylinder block (looking from the front of the vehicle) next to the transmission flange. The engine code is ALDA. Additional oil splash nozzles have been incorporated into the cylinder block to provide sufficient cooling for the piston crowns. Cylinder head The compression ratio has been increased from 10.0:1 to 10.2:1. This has been mainly achieved through the use of a revised cylinder head gasket together with a larger cylinder diameter. The bore has been increased from 84.4 mm to 84.8 mm. The knock sensor, the fuel distribution pipe, the mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor), the barometric air pressure sensor (BAP sensor) and the injectors have all been modified. The lift of the cams on the intake and exhaust camshaft has been increased. The diameter of the intake valves has been increased from 33 mm to33.5 mm, and the valve springs have been uprated (purple). The valve seats have been reinforced, and the exhaust valves and the springs have also been revised. In addition, the intake camshaft is adjustable via a variable camshaft timing (VCT) unit. The function and operating principles of the VCT unit are described in detail in the brochure 1,7L-VCT Engine - Puma (CG 7625/S). One key difference on the VCT unit is the revised oil supply. The oil is no longer supplied through a ring, but instead directly through a bore on the solenoid valve. Quote
