Tubs Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Just a few comments. Its a waste of time and money buying an engine, any engine then taking it apart to fit aftermarket rods, cams, clylinder heads polished and ported and various other bits and pieces. The games moved on from those days. Pick the right engine, fit the obligatory throttle bodies and a dry sump if necessary then its a JD If it goes bang, remove the bits on the outside and buy another . Needless to say the three I have in mind are all Hondas Standard Zetecs ,Duratecs , Vauxhalls are so last year! Now let the fur fly Sounds like fighting talk. So if someone was sitting there with a 2L zetec on carbs or tbs how easy and what engine would you go to? K20A - Speak to Troy at NMS - he know's how easy it is. Tubs Quote

What a cracking car it could have been if you had fitted a differant gearbox and continued its development. Regards. Quote
Paul Aspden Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Got to be the s2000 honda, no comparison, Fords don't even get a look in. Quote
dombanks Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 what about the gearbox? i thought some of the thinking of the ford engines was that the type 9 just fits on easy Quote
thos Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 what about the gearbox? i thought some of the thinking of the ford engines was that the type 9 just fits on easy Bellhousings available for both Honda K20 and F20 engines to Type9 pattern box ie; quaife / elite. Mick has carbon for the F20, and DMRR do kits for both F20 & K20. Quote
Tubs Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Got to be the s2000 honda, no comparison, Fords don't even get a look in. The K20A is much more upgradeable than the F20C and cheaper. Tubs Quote

Tubs I think you're missing the point Mick is making. The joy of either engine should be fit and forget!! I'm fitting an F20C for that exact reason - 250bhp from bolt on bits, I hope to never had the head off or go buying pistons/rods/cams etc! Quote

Tubs Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Mostly because there are a wider range of parts available and those parts tend to be cheaper. Because of the relative rarerity of the F20C and the more limited gains available there is a lot less demand for parts and those who are looking tend to be wealthier in the first place. Remember that the K20A is used in the Honda Civic Type R and the ITR both of which have a wider following than the S2000 and also, because the engine has a lower starting point there is more to be gained by upgrading. You might say that there is no need to upgrade the F20. However, if you start with 200ponies then an upgrade that will give you 60 more ponies is worth having - by contract the same end power would mean only a 20pony gain for the F20 which reduces the financial benefit. A quick look at a web site such as Skunk2 will show an abundance of tuning parts for the K but only one or two (one of which is FI) for the F. There is also scope for the to enlarge the capacity of a K20A. Sticking a 2.4 block onto the K20A head is a very cheap power upgrade which, with a few other mods, per the DMMR web-site, will give you 326bhp. Tubs Quote

Tubs Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I'm waiting to see what I've got now before I make any plans. One thing for sure, I don't think I'll be going for the 326 motor! Tubs Quote
Paul Aspden Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Instead of debating upgrades to engine that doesn't need them, get on with putting said engine in car!!! IMHO if you think you need to upgrade an F20 engine, you must be competing with the car on slicks. I drive Micks car and manage to acheive greater top speeds at some events (the fast ones like Aintree) than those running slicks. This tells me that the car doesn't lack horsepower, and therefore doesn't need upgrades. Now get in the garage and bring out a car to beat Micks!! Quote
