fatbaldbloke Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Don't change, get TB's on the Zetec, would be my advice. Quote
rose5691 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 my cars woth 9500 and this one is 12-2.5k difference so keep mine and spend it on that or upgrade to Duratec....it's been a long day Quote
dombanks Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 had enough of carbs! sorry i meant throttle bodies like the jenvey ones im using. i guess the RR must have been out a bit then, he did it twice as he was supprised at the first value and it came out at 155 at the wheels which i was told you could add 15% to to account for transmitsson loss Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 pinto to duratec is a worthwhile upgrade agree with others though if you have zetec already - fettle with the engine you have unless you really just wanna be spending money for the sake of it or want 200 plus bhp Quote
thos Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 The quickest engine is the one in your engine bay!! Quote
Andy Banks Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I wonder what Dunnell could do for £2.5K...? Quote

Guest Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I wonder what Dunnell could do for £2.5K...? I know a car dealer up north who with his mates thought a zetec would never feel quick ........ I recon 3k with dunnel would make for a very nice engine , and i would stay on the carbs too ..... but , it depends if you want quick or resale value . your 12k duratec car will retain more value than the zetec with the money spent ....... however i know what i would have . mhc Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Just a few comments. Its a waste of time and money buying an engine, any engine then taking it apart to fit aftermarket rods, cams, clylinder heads polished and ported and various other bits and pieces. The games moved on from those days. Pick the right engine, fit the obligatory throttle bodies and a dry sump if necessary then its a JD If it goes bang, remove the bits on the outside and buy another . Needless to say the three I have in mind are all Hondas Standard Zetecs ,Duratecs , Vauxhalls are so last year! Now let the fur fly Quote

So if someone was sitting there with a 2L zetec on carbs or tbs how easy and what engine would you go to? Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Hi, I've got to comment. The Duratec is the best of the two engines ( but then I would say that ) Ummm 204BHP from a standard Duratec with just TB and ECU ( Bu11$hit ) realistically around 180BHP as mine was tuned by OMEX / Jenvey themselves. Yes the engine is lighter than a Zetec and if building a car from scratch why not go for the Duratec. As you already have a Zetec I'd suggest you have 2 options: 1. Replace it with the ST170 engine -> The exhaust is on the same side so no unsightly holes in the bodywork etc. This will be slightly heavier than a full Duratec but will see you with 180 BHP with TB and ECU. ( Calling Rob Iles to the Boardroom ) 2. Hand your current engine over to one of the reputable tuners and let them work their magic. I'm sure they would easily be able to give you 200BHP plus with your Zetec. Regards, Steve Quote
markcoopers Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Why change at all Mr Dombanks and etal, are you getting the best out of your 2L on what evers? Is it really squeezed dry and now sooooo boring to need to be replaced by a F2 engine, atomic bomb or more? Seriously why is everyone so transfixed with 2L what evers. Zetec or Duratec, they are quick period. the quicker one will be the one that is driven quicker end of. You want to go quicker on track, get a decent gearbox, shocks, brakes, tyres and loose the weight. You want to go quicker on the road then perhaps you should ask if this is the right thing to do? there are limits. We have chaps with all sorts of engines in our area and we all get to the same destination point at the same time, all have a laugh, and all are sort of reliable......or we laugh some more at their expense, so don't think a swap from zetec to duratec is worth while. If it goes bang and you need a new one.....well that is a different matter. Quote
Tubs Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Gents,For information, after a visit to NMS my Factory 2.0L Duratec (KMS throttle bodies and OMEX 600 which replaced the standard KMS unit) made 183.1, which was quite an improvement as to when it left the factory . Regards, Keith That sounds about right, Keith. Mine made a few more than that IIRC before I spent a few bob on it, but mine was with a Westfield trackday silencer on it, ie no "nunney" in it, which is worth 2 or 3 bhp. By the way, I'm now fat AND skint, because I bought a Duratec, and decided to go in for one or two upgrades. Oh, and I doubt Cleggy will be posting much more on this thread, he's too concerned about having his member's rights cut off!! Cleggy'd be more worried by having his member cut right off. Tubs Quote
