KC7 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Gents, For information, after a visit to NMS my Factory 2.0L Duratec (KMS throttle bodies and OMEX 600 which replaced the standard KMS unit) made 183.1, which was quite an improvement as to when it left the factory . Regards, Keith Quote
RobK Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Gents, For information, We don't want fact and information for this one! This should be discussed from the heart I'm waiting for Cleggy to really open up, i'm sure he's got more to add if we ask him nice Quote
Bananaman Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 *Typical power output, variations may occur depending on operational conditions Yer and i'm 12 stone!!!! depending on operational conditions!!!! Quote
ljsanders Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Then again my 1800 Zetec (which WF quote as 155bhp with the Jenvey's) left the factory with under 130bhp, depending on the rolling road barely made 120bhp at times. Running very rich at the top end and wouldn't rev past 6k at times. Went to NMS, 3 hours later, it left with 159.7bhp and 25lb/ft more torques, and revs to 7200 all day. The only difference was: A different fuel+ignition map on the MBE 956E ECU A tweek to cam timing Cranked up fuel pressure Same hardware, just different setup. So WF are supplying cars with dodgy maps and I've heard the same for Duratec cars too. Quote

Regards, Keith That sounds about right, Keith. Mine made a few more than that IIRC before I spent a few bob on it, but mine was with a Westfield trackday silencer on it, ie no "nunney" in it, which is worth 2 or 3 bhp. By the way, I'm now fat AND skint, because I bought a Duratec, and decided to go in for one or two upgrades. Oh, and I doubt Cleggy will be posting much more on this thread, he's too concerned about having his member's rights cut off!! Quote
Jumpy07 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Someone mentioned it allready.. ST Duratec, ST170 .. (tricked Zetec), a standard one with Jenveys and ECU @190Hp... obviously slightly heavier than a Durabang... but cheaper to buy... easier to fit.. (exhaust same side as Zetec) and much much cheaper to tune.. CJ Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Cleggy not saying nowt as he is too busy upgrading to a lister steam engine in hope that it will add extra weight to the car and keep it on the ground during high speed corners I fondly remembering the days when the ban hammer was dropped from way up high rose tinted specs donned Quote
nikpro Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Go for the Sigma engine everyday - very, very light, tuneable and sweet. Otherwise the Duratec ST170 - which is from the Zetec family and not the latest Mazda design Forget the latest Duratec - a Silvertop/Blacktop Zetec can be tuned to 230bhp for less money and be far more reliable; after that the latest 2.0 ltr Duratec cost circa £10,000 for 260-280 bhp and reliability - but then wins hands down over the Zetec silver/blacktop. Resale value - go duratec - people in the pub like listening to crap! Quote
DITCH Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 John, Talking from the point of view from a Quote:'' fat blerk and skint"? and happily not a "Skinny Runt 6st wet through!!! I'm quite happy pulling out 170bhp from a 1.8ltr Zetec with 2.0ltr 130 cams on Webber Alpha throttle bodies !!! Fast enough for me! Fat blerk......... Quote
rose5691 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 So is it worth the switch from Zetec on 40's to standard Duratec? Quote
dombanks Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 why not just switch your 40's to 45's and gain the power that way? my standard zetec on 45's is 180bhp (unless the graph was lying) Quote
leighc Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 why not just switch your 40's to 45's and gain the power that way? my standard zetec on 45's is 180bhp (unless the graph was lying) that's quite a lot for a standard zetec Quote
nikpro Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 So is it worth the switch from Zetec on 40's to standard Duratec? Nope; unless you have the money burning a hole and want a new car - the duratec will give you 30-40hp increase which is nice. Other option is just toput throttle bodies/ECU? on the car you have with a nice cylinder head. This will also give 30-40hp increase. (Approx £1200-1500 with all new parts and mapped) Quote
Jenko Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 So is it worth the switch from Zetec on 40's to standard Duratec? Again, I would vote nope......Conversion cost will be thousands - Go for throttle bodies on the zetec, and then look to further upgrades as you please and cash allows - Head port and cams should see you with 200bhp (with correct cam) - Going to TB's means re mapping every time you tune, but probably cheaper than re jetting carbs....... A zetec on 40's should be 150 - 160 bhp, a duratec on TB's should be (realistically around 180bhp)...So you would be paying 3.5-4k for an extra 20 bhp, and 15kg less weight..... Quote
