Bananaman Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 to put it another way, does this look worth the money? www.pistonheads.com/sales/1832585.htm Just how long IS a piece od string??? Seroiusly i'd want to know where there getting 204horses from is it just by bolting on the TB's if so then that's bulls***, however if it involves some cams &/or head work then maybe! Personally i wouldn't get carried away with power figures when buying i'd look more at the overall package, best mods for a westie are good tyres, shox & gearbox..... Quote

pincher Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 There are some nice cars out there for 8-9 grand or less, that leaves 3 grand plus for petrol. Quote

Calling StephenH back to the boardroom We need a BHP figure but don't tell them how much it cost to get there ! Quote
stephenh Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Well, I think I know the car. And if it is the one I think it is, it is a very smart and well looked after example, owned by a former AO. As to the power output, It is the figure quoted by Webcon Alpha amongst others. Just seems to be very difficult to reproduce on anyone's rolling road! Unless you spend a bit of money on the head and cams and exhaust, then it gets a lot higher! Quote
JeffC Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I will wade in with both feet then.. from experience.. standard duratec westy will be around 175-185bhp, performance wise quicker than standard zetec but not as quick as a 2.0 zetec with some headwork decent cams and a decent exhaust manifold fitted and also not as quick in a straight line as the captains 170bhp 2.0 pinto If you have a zetec at the mo personally I would upgrade rather than replacing engine if you are looking for standard duratec power, if I was buying a car I would buy a duratec over a zetec all day but obviously this will come at a price but duratec is very tuneable if you have coin to chuck at it duratec motor is a fair bit lighter than a zetec which is the equivelent of a few bhp. as for disussing the price I will sit back with my popcorn, as could do without another lecture from Blatters Quote
Captain Colonial Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 and also not as quick in a straight line as the captains 170bhp 2.0 pinto Still smarting over that helpful repainting advice I gave you to sort out the knocking problem, I see. Happily, I have no reason to fib about my bomb-proof 130bhp 1.6 CVH (the icon photo is a hint BTW), which is not as quick as a Durabang (when they're working and not scattering internals across the highway) or a Zetec (when they're on the road and not having its spark plugs replaced every 3,000 miles to stop it misfiring). I have found a much easier and cheaper way to make mine go faster without spending money - save weight and leave SWMBO at home. Simples! Quote

So, in summary if yer a fat blerk and skint, buy a zetec 'cos the weight difference will be neglible (with driver added), and performance ok, and if yer a skinny geezer with some wedge then plump for a Duratec and lighten yer wallet further and take advantage of the lower starting kerb weight.... If yer a fat blerk with wedge or a skinny bloke and broke then yer ferked... Quote
