rose5691 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 What are the differences between the two please? I have a 2L Zetec on twin 40's and I'm considering a Duratec powered Westy. Just need to know if I will feel much difference in power and performance. Thank you, John. Quote

Terry Everall Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Duratec is the one to have for lots of reasons Quote
rose5691 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 you're teasing me now!As standard in a westy, both on injection what's the difference then? Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Zetec for lots of other reasons ...discussion going well so far..... Quote

stephenh Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I refuse to get drawn into this one................................... Duratec= Quote
peterg Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 OK, I assume you've done a search.... but for starters, the Duratec is newer technology and has greater potential than a Zetec - a highly tuned 2ltr Zetec won't really go above 270-280bhp max whereas a 2ltr Duratec can relatively easily be taken up to 300bhp and beyond now (if you have the money of course...) fatbaldbloke Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 QUOTE Oh for goodness sake children! I take that as a compliment, I'm desperately trying to avoid growing up. By way of serious opening gambit, comparing a Zetec with webers, probably around 155-160 hp with a Duratec on TB's at 205 hp will give you a difference. However, if you took a Zetec and fitted, for example, the 205hp Dunnell kit, you would notice much less difference, if any. For sure, there's likely to be a price and age variance, so a Duratec car would most probably be pricier than a Zetec engined car and may in general be built around newer parts, but is a well sorted Duratec better than a well sorted Zetec (plus probably a couple of grand in the bank)...I wouldn't have said there was a lot in it. Sits back with popcorn and large coke..... Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 if you already have a hole in the nearside of the tub for your exhaust then stick with the zetec and tune it up if you want more horses or even better stick the duratec ST in duratec is the more expensive route but you get 180bhp plus without touching engine internals on TB's - oh and it's a bit lighter too but the exhaust comes out other side I will now get my coat and retire from this topic Quote
