MarkJ
Right, next question... I need to fit a header tank to my '92 SE narrow Westy, the previous owner told me I needed an Allegro one, the manual says nothing about where it comes from. As the engine is a Xflow from a Capri, I would have thought the header tank also should be from a Ford? Or doesn't it matter? The only other under-bonnet item needed that I am aware of is a horn which I assume is necessary for SVA. I am assuming I can use any s/hand horn that will fit from the scrappers? Mark. samcooke
Doesn't really matter what sort, as long as you can physically fit it somewhere. Lots of people go for Triumph dolomite jobbies, which is what I've got, it was 3 quid plus some elbow grease to clean it up. Look here for some more info. MarkJ
Sam, thanks for the link. I've printed it off and I'm sure it will come in handy when I come to fit mine. Cheers, MJ.

Mark Stanton
Ford Escort / Fiesta header tank works fine
MarkJ
Bought an Escort Mk4 tank from a breakers yard. I gather this fits to the scuttle above the battery. On the narrow-body, this doesn't seem to leave much room to fit the washer fluid reservoir to the scuttle? Is there a better place to put it ? (polite answers only please...) Blatman
End of the drivers footwell is where I have mine. This is not possible if you have floor mounted pedals......................
samcooke
My header tank is in the middle of the scuttle, above the box with all the wires in. The washer bag can easily fit down the side somewhere, towards the front of the engine bay.
furtive
I took some photos of my engine yesterday - you can see where my header tank is. It's from a Ford Something.
Ian Podmore
Furtive - Looks like your air compressor may be mounted the wrong way up. I knackered one by not having the entry point to the bottom. I think the alloy bit should be pointing towards the ground. BTW, I stand to be corrected on this. furtive
My what? You mean the thing for the air horns?
neilb
I have used one from a nissan sunny/micra - it's not so much as a header tank as overflow bottle that will suck the water back with a special cap It can be mounted below the top of the rad and is very neat - my friend is using one on his xflow as well without any issues. I would post some pics but don't have a digi camera Have a look a one - but make sure that you get the cap when you buy it from a breaker Neil
JulianS
Furtive- nice pics What is your thermostat housing from? What is your radiator & have you had any problems with a blow fan? Just wondered, that's all! By the way, did any one else notice the subtle lilac - it's like a virus, starting to spread slowly, it'll be everywhere soon
furtive
JulianS The thermostat housing is from an Ford XR2 I think, and the radiator is from a VW Polo. No problems whatsoever with the blow fan. Used to have an old heavy rad and it was always overheating, changed to the Polo rad and it's been rock steady ever since. And the pipes are blue, not lilac. What do you expect from a £30 digital camera?
