Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Ok work contract ends on mobile phones start of July The new i phone is out Thursday I want to use email and internet whilst on the move Is the i phone the best option or should I be considering blackberry type jobs, dell streak etc I have a basic nokia slide at the moment so anything is an upgrade on that your thoughts please Quote
barney Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 iphone works well with internet and email,if you reply a lot on email then maybe a blackberry keypad would be easier than the iphone small keyboard...or i need smaller fingers.. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 The iPhone is very nice, but have known lots of people who have the devil's own job setting it up for emails because it's not a "push" system, meaning you have to tell it to retrieve your emails ("pull") rather then having automatically "pushed" to the phone, which can make it more expensive to use. New iPhone 4G does look good though and has had good reviews, but is still a battery vampire, lasts about a day before recharging. Lots of apps though - mmmmm, toys! I have a BlackBerry 9700 Bold which is very good for emails as it's "push", so easy to set up. I have five email addresses (home and work and other) which all push to my phone as they come in, and sync as well so you can reply or forward or delete from the phone and it syncs the action in the main box. However, as a web browser, it leaves a lot to be desired from screen size and speed. Avoid BlackBerry Storm like the plague. Had three in a month and they sucked liked an atomic-powered Hoover. Try them both in the store first if you can. Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I have heard the HTC is just as good as the iPhone....... if I was you, go into your local phone shops and have a play with them before you make your mind up Quote
bhouse Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I've had an HTC hero since last August and I'm very impressed with it. Email and web browsing are easy and there are plenty of apps available. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 IPhone, particularly OS4 works well with MS Exchange if your company IT bods allow it - and it is push email in this configuration. Quote
matt_c Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I have an iPhone and Mrs C has a HTC. The HTC is a good substitute for the iPhone but in my opinion you can't beat the real thing. IOS4 had just made it even better. For me, the extra cost of the iPhone is justified. Edit: If you can get the iPhone 4 then even better. Quote
PeP Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Better than any iPhone. I'm using one at the moment and my iPhone using mates are all jealous. Faster, better OS,better looking and cheaper to boot. P.S. Android is upgradable too. Quote
Stuart Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 My Iphone has crap reception and I have actually seen a response from Vodafone along the lines of 'you shouldn't expect reception to be as good as a Nokia et al as Apple aren't specialist phone makers'. My 10 year old Nokia gets a signal in lots of places the Iphone can't. I wouldn't have another one but depends where you are using it I guess. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Using a Nokia 5800 express great for emails, internet, apps, music and camera Quote
Gromit Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I`ve got a HTC hero that i`ve had for the last year and a bit, its due up for replacement next month and i`ll definatly be going for the HTC desire as my next phone. Its a flippin good all rounder. Quote
dhutch Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The Nokia 6300/6500 are nice phones if you after a simpler set up, although the review day the buttons on the replacement (6700) are less desirable for texting if thats a consideration. Quote
BEN99W Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Another for HTC (mines a Hero). I got mine on £25 contract from 3 which is way cheaper than any iPhone and the phone is every bit as good as far as I'm concerned. Ben Quote

I too was considering the new Iphone, but a few friends with 3g Iphone have commented on the fact that it's great at most stuff except for the phone stuff, where it seems to be prone to dropping calls at random and iffy reception...... maybe I'll just stick with my Itouch for media and a Nokia for telephone duties? Don't really want to dump a wedge ona phone which is err, carp at being a phone...? This is only based on hearsay from 3 pals who have current iphones.... Quote
