Hey, I can answer this one!

Nowadays every kit car, sorry amateur built vehicle, has to be SVA'd before it can be registered.  The SVA has nothing to do with registration except you have to have passed SVA before you can register a kit.  This applies whether the car ends up as a Q plate or new or age related reg.  The type of registration awarded (to put it simply) depends mainly on how many new/donor parts are used.  If you used diff/gbog and engine from a Sierra you could possible take it's age related reg also! If you use all new parts or all new and only one major recon part you can get a new plate. Otherwise it'll probably be a Q plate.

If you buy a car ready built and registered it will already have been SVA'd if it was built after 1998(ish). Before that SVA didn't really exist.

HTH

Mike
