harky
i have never used a rolling road but intend to take my car over shortly, should i replace most of the servicable stuff(plugs, leads etc) before i go or wait till after to see the results. Blatman
Depends really. New plugs are always a good idea, and I only use NGK's. New leads? If the ones you have are particlularly old and scabby, then why not. As long as they are providing nice strong sparks, though, why bother? If you've a hankering for a bit of a tidy up, then fair enough, it won't do any harm. If you're hoping that new plugs/leads etc will give you a few more bhp on the rollers, well, they might. But they might not.........it'll almost certainly run better with just new plugs though. If the rest is functioning OK, take it as is, and see what the rolling road operator says. Who's rollers are you using?
harky
I am based in glasgow so there is a shortage of rolling roads but a friend knows somebody in glenrothes but I dont know there name.Do you recommend anyone?
stu999
I second Blatter's advise on the NGK's. Theoretically at least, if your engine is running throughout the rev-range without a misfire, then there should be no need for new leads etc. BUT..... Once-open-a-time, when all cars were made with points ignition, quite a few R/R operators wouldnt touch a car until new points, plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap had been fitted. The opinion seemed to be that so much time could be wasted trying to trace potential faults with old components, that it was cheaper to replace with new from the outset. It wont cost much to replace it all, and will hopefully let the R/R operator concentrate on getting the best from your engine. HTH Stu. Mickie C
Harky Same situation as yourself, 1700 xflow, Kent 234, twin 40's (Dellorto's) and am also in Glasgow. I bought the car last year and took it to a place out near Glasgow airport but to be honest I don't really rate them that highly. They didn't stock any jets and suggested that if I wanted to get hold of some jets they would be happy to fit them for me!!!! They seemed to be more interested in just running the car on the rollers and seeing what it could do. I've now found a place in Cambuslang called Robinson Tuning that seems very good. They are are a Webber specialist but has been more than happy to order jets in for my Dellorto's in the past. The chap seems genuinely interested in the cars and couldn't have been more helpful the last time I was there. Highly recommended. My car is booked in for a session on Thursday morning to have the carbs tweaked a little with the new jets that have been ordered so I'll report back and let you know how it gets on. Mark Stanton
Seems to be the season for it I would agree with Blatters I've always used NGK plugs on my CVH. First rolling road session I took mine to the guy just grunted an unfriendly grunt and the car ran have never been back there since. Other rolling roads (2 others) I have used since have always checked plugs and said "You can't beat these NGK"
harky
Mike Could you get me the number for the guy in cambuslang as it is a lot closer than glenrothes which is the only place i have heard that is any good. cheers!

Bob Green
NGK plugs, the best you can get for Westfield use (both road and track). Before I had grey hair I was seriously into Karting and the most reliable plug I ever used was NGK.
