patwellington
Where is the most competive place to get insurance for a 2ltr Westie (31 yrs old male)? I am new to this type of car. Help!
Mike H
Welcome to the club Pat. There are quite a few specialist kit car insurance companies around, the one which doesn't seem to get slated which is the one I use is Footman James (0121 5614196). They know kit cars and know Westfields as they have a special deal with the factory for new cars. I've not heard anything bad about them yet. cheers Mike

Stuart
Footman James special deal with factory ended this year. I renewed with them in August (for my 3rd year) and my premium went up from £98 fully comp unlimited mileage with breakdown and legal cover for me & Mrs. (yes, really) to £176 for same deal but limited to 3,000 miles. Had a good shop around and couldn't find better. 1.8 Zetec & I'm 48 but have a bit of a chequered accident history (none of it my fault, of course)

Warren E Smith
Footman James renewal quote £250 ish (3 K miles me only) HHH were £240 me and mrs Garaged No accidents at that point - wonder what they'll say next time round..... 29 years , 1.7 xflow, I must say though that HHH have been a bit mixed so far with my accident, they change their mind about things too often for my liking....You can hire a trailer to get it to Westfield, you can't, you can........ chrisbin
I went with HHH. 38 No "no claims" (company cars). 6 points Limited mileage to 3,500 2 ltr Zetec Garaged £211 Best I could find! PS Although this is already becoming a good thread with up to date prices, try searching cos theres others in the database. They will give you the names, numbers etc to try. PPS Interestingly, when I was looking around for the right car I got a few quotes and it seemed that the age and value of the car didn't change the premium much at all. AndyM
Footman James were best for me after ringing round. (Actually Adrian Flux gave the cheapest quote but they couldn't get their act together or reply to an e-mail)
samcooke
Ding AndyM. Sureterm Direct www.sureterm.com walloped the usual suspects' (Adrian Flux and Footman James) quotes for me (23, no ncb, 4k miles, garaged, 5k agreed value, 1700 xflow, in Suffolk) by £50, I ended up paying £220. But... Further dealings have left me less than impressed. I rang up to tell them I'd changed the engine for an identical spec unit but a different number (obviously). They said "fine but we'll have to charge you a £30 admin fee for changing the number". I'm moving soon and doubtless that'll be another £30 and I'd have done better elsewhere. I'd go on quality of service rather than the last pennies off the premium anyday. If I had to claim I'd rather have a decent insurer than a cheap one. Bob Green
I have been with CIC of Colchester for the last 5 years and have taken a slightly different route as my annual mileage is very low. Fully comp parts ONLY at 3,000 miles a year is £160. My way of thinking is if somebody clouts me, it's their insurance I claim from. If I stuff the car, well I deserve to sweat the labour to put it right. I also have contacts in the Recovery industry should the need ever arise. furtive
I've recently been ringing round for quotes, and here they are. They are for a 30 year old male plus wife. No "no claims bonus" on this car as it's all on my other one. Living in London, but car garaged in Hertfordshire. All 3000 mile policies. Based on a 1990 SEi 1600 X-flow: Adrian Flux £145.75 Sureterm £181.00 Egger Lawson £189.43 MSM £208.35 Hill House Hammond £222.48 Osbourne £259.17 Footman James £347.55 I've gone for...... none of them as my car has no MOT at the moment
