paulleo 72
Tom, you can put cycle wings on a pre lit no problem , the thing with pre lit's is that they are very narrow and similar to a c******m in fact a lot of c******m spares will fit windscreen/sidescreens etc. .Other spares are easily available just a case of looking in the right places. The rear wings can be changed i have removable arches on my car.here is a pic http://www.geocities.com/paulleo72/car_pics_017.jpghope hope this helps. chazpowerslide
Hi Tom, Pre-Lits are supposed to be very close copy of the Mk 2 c******m but in actual fact it's the shape that is close the mechanicals are quiet different. As Paullo says many of the body fittings are a close fit between the c******m and Pre-Lit. Beware, things can be deceptive the nose cone bonnet and scuttle are different as is the depth of the engine bay and the curves of the "square" rear wings. You will have a major job on your hands converting a Pre-Lit to a modern DOHC engine (too tall, needing to be very low in chassis or or large bonnet bulge) though a Toyota 4AGE, Lotus Twin Cam will fit without too much trouble, XFlows being the norm in these cars. If mine is anything to go by chassis corrosion can be a problem as can the GRP body. If you require any parts to be made by the factory they'll need the origional back to destroy before they make the new part (all part of the litigation conditions) a complete body kit will cost C.£1200 (a new nose is about £220) The rear O/S wheel usually rubs on the arch as if the body is not on square at the back even though it is and depending on the year of the car you may find that the steering rack is not centrally fitted causing you to have more lock on one side than the other (this is a throwover from changing from Triumph Spitfire to Ford Escort running gear and does not do too much for the handling) I'm in the middle of a total rebuild using a mixture of c******m body parts (nose, cycle wings and rear arches) a 2.0 Vauxhall XE engine, Seirra based De Dion rear suspension and bespoke front susprnsion. I've sold the GRP body and will pannel the chassis in aluminun. Above all when you buy your Pre-Lit ensure it is registerd as a Westfield and not and is not an "Escort Sport" or similar on the log book. It should have a Westfield chassis no. If it's not registerd properly it's worth about half of what the seller is looking for as to make it legal as you'll need an SVA and the car was not designed to pass the SVA test (read loads of hassle and money) If you get a good one you'll have loads of fun cheeply (relativly for a Westfield) and they are getting pretty rare now so different is good. If you want a chat Email me or use the PM on here. Chaz.
