zvezdochka
Build is progressing , more slowly than planned but so far so good. Fitting the handbrake cables has raised a question ref routing. With the adjuster on the right hand side the outer cable seems to be bent very tightly to pass the diff. I am then left with 2 options to pass the fixed brake pipe coming from the front of the car which loops round to the 3 way connector. Either run the cable directly under the 3 way connector and then over the chassis member (the cable ends up pushing against the loop of brake pipe) or between the pipe and the speedo sensor bracket. Is the routing critical for SVA? still on the handbrake, fitting the pin and split pin to connect the cable saddle to the handbrake lever is tricky now so it must be worse when the propshaft is in. has anybody tried replacing this with a bolt ? Finally, I need to attach the numerous connectors to match the westfield loom. Any recommendations for a good crimping tool, and should I also solder?? Thanks Rick
steppenwolf
Finally, I need to attach the numerous connectors to match the westfield loom. Any recommendations for a good crimping tool, and should I also solder?? I soldered all my additional electrical connectors. I really don't like crimp connectors at all but if you MUST use them then buy a really good quality tool - don't consider one of the two piece pressed steel horrible things! I think Maplin do some and so do Premier Wiring I believe. Soldering is still the better method though IMHO.
tomo
I was going to solder my connectors but the guy at Premier Wiring told me not to. I think his argument was that if you get an overload the solder can melt an then you have a live wire flapping around. He has tested the crimping tool he sells and quotes some impressive pull out loads. Tomo
