rose5691 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 So what's the final verdict-tb's and ecu OR cams to start with?? Quote
Blatman Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Gearbox first. If you're going for more power you should do something with it anyway. I'm saying do it first. You WILL find it seems like you have more power and it's easier and cheaper than cams and head work and much easier and cheaper than TB's Quote

Whilst Mr Blatman and others don't need any seconding, I've had the same choice to make as you. Since I bought the car I've gone for suspension improvements, a good geo setup, and significantly revised diff and gearbox ratios. I've also reduced the car weight wherever practicably possibl. Pretty much left the engine alone. These changes have made the car quite a bit quicker, and handle better. The engine changes will come later once I get these other things right. Quote
rose5691 Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 ok, I aceept that as my first route. Guess what the next question is. Clue-I have a type 9 5 speed box Quote
RichP Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Try: BGH Raceline SPC (not in any order of preference) Quote
Jenko Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Agree - a decent set of ratios is a big help.... However, you post said you want more power - First off, I agree with what has been said, not worth the expense of going to 45's - you may squeeze and extra 5 bhp from the top end, but you may also loose a little torque further down the rev range........ The obvious place to start tuning is with cams...BUT, as soon as you change the cams you will need to re jet the carbs!. Cams also work very well with head work, so all of a sudden you are up to around £1000 depending on where you go - NMS do a very good zetec head and cams...However, any such change will again require re jets, and maybe even a move upto 45's.....Alas, it's an expensive game, and...So, question is, how much do you want to spend - and where do you want to get to?......It's probably cheaper to do it all at once as you will only need one rolling road session - So, change to throttle bodies and fuel injection, cams, and head work, and you are looking at 200bhp, and a £3000 bill :-) Quote
