rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Advice needed. On a Zetec silver top 2L with twin 40s I'm getting about155hp. If I swapped for 45s any idea what the increase may be on average? Thanks, John Quote
Bob Green Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 40's are good for 150bhp and anything over that, 45's are the way to go. However, given your engine output, I doubt if you will see much difference, if any to be honest. A lot of money for very little me thinks. Given you are not too sure of your engine output, have you been on a RR to have the 40's set up correctly? Thats what I would do. Quote
rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Yes at NMS and it's 154.2. Bad case of upgradeitus and not sure where to start...cams, but then I'll nee new ignition etc... Thoughts and sugestions welcomed, John. Quote
Bob Green Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If you are to upgrade, bear in mind that it's not just a case of "bunging" things on. It's about blending cams, cam timing, ignition mapping et al together to realise each individual components potential. Quote
Bob Green Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 After I have been out in my car to see if it works after fitting a crankshaft front oil seal. Quote
rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Is that a flippin' XE turbo? Let me know how it goes. John. Quote
rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Oh, thick me. What a monster, how many horses? Must cost a fortune in hay. Quote
Bob Green Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Standard 224. It's not hay that cost me a fortune, it's toilet paper! Quote
rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 alternative fuel-although you'd need to attach a magimix onto the fuel filler but should be ok Quote
Blatman Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 It's a proper engine with a hairdryer on the side of it... QUOTE Advice needed. On a Zetec silver top 2L with twin 40s I'm getting about155hp. If I swapped for 45s any idea what the increase may be on average? The key here is choke size. You only *need* to go from 40's to 45's if you need a set of chokes that won't otherwise fit in a 40. Externally, 40's and 45's are the same dimensions and most of the parts are interchangable. But if your car produces it's best with, say, 36mm chokes, then it matters not whether the chokes are encased in a 40 or a 45. If the car *needs* 38mm chokes though, then you'll *need* a set of 45's 'cos 38mm chokes are too big for a 40... Quote
rose5691 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 All that said, where would you start then? Cams, head mod, just give me more power-pleaaase!! Quote
Bob Green Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 All that said, where would you start then? Cams, head mod, just give me more power-pleaaase!! I would start with Cams, head mods and 3D ignition together to get the best from upgrades. Looking at your avatar, you enjoy the track. Is your car set up correctly in terms of steering geometery and suspension. A sharp handling car is as good as more power. Quote
