2.0L Zetec advice required..

Engine should be in the car in the next month but before then I need to get it ready, so....

1) I have a lowline sump, how do I know how much oil to fill the engine with and is the old dipstick useless?

2) Ford want £50+ for the crank pulley and bolt, is there anywhere else I could source these parts?

3) Do I have to get the alternator mounting bracket from Westfield, is there anywhere cheaper?

Or...

The engine is complete at the moment (less ancillaries), the cambelt is in good nick, but the pulley's could do with a bit of a clean up as they have some surface rust. As I am NO mechanic should I clean the engine up, leave the 2.0L Water Pump in (changing the pulley to accept a v-belt) and just see if I can get it running. I am really loathed to remove the cambelt myself as it scares the #### out of me that I will b******* it up, once up and running I will teake it to my local garage and get them to change the belt.

Opinions please, this has been bothering me for months now and now I have to do it I need to make a decision!

The dip stick will still be ok to go by.

Get your local garage to change the timing belt and pulleys as you pt it before you try to start the engine could be costly otherwise   ;)

If you are a bit handy you can make an Escort MkII braket fit. ;)

Change the pulley on the water pump to take a v-groove belt.  Provided it's not too far to the garage you should be OK with the 2.0L pump.

If you feel brave, check the Haynes manual.  The zetec is surprisingly easy to work on (i.e device to lock camshafts in 0ne position only at TDC)
