Howard
I'm building a wide body SE with a live axle. For the moment the rolling chassis is standing on the original Escort steel wheels. Having fitted the body and wheel arches it looks as though even the recommended 6J rims will not be wide enough to finish close enough to the wheel arch and will look 'lost'. The rims are currently 3" inside the arches. Unless the wheels are heavily dished - and the much favoured Minilites don't appear to be - it seems that the wheels need to be mounted on spacers. Is this usual? Where would I get such a thing? I thought spacing wheels out was something people used to do to Mk 3 Cortinas in an attempt to look like Starsky and Hutch. Eeeiuu. Blatman
Nothing wrong with spacers........ Take a look at this........ You can also search the forum using the word "spacers" for a whole plethora of information.
juansolo
We've got an SEW on an English axle running 13" KN Minators and they are certainly no where near 3" in the arches. Prolly about 1" tops and we're not using spacers at all. Sorry, this is the best picture I can find and it doesn't show it too well. It's also running about 3cm to high due to the massive sump that's on it. Eventually it will be dry sumped and dropped down on some stiffer springs. Howard
Thanks for the info chaps, esp. Blatman. I was blissfully unaware of offset and associated issues but I'm learning fast!
